Is the time right?

Deep down I know the answer.

My 18 year old cat has not been herself for a week, hiding away and barely eating.

Definitely something going on inside her mouth. Went to the vets yesterday but she wouldn't let them near her. (Bring her back if she doesn't get better for some pain killers)

Has a heart mumour and crashed during last dental 4 years ago so anesthetic has been a no, no since. So even if they could look, they couldn't operate if needed.

I look at her from this time last week. She's lost her spark, losts lots of weight, barely eating, havent seem her drink or use her cat litter. I dread to think how much deteriation another week will bring.

She's hiding, doesn't want to interact. Yesterday she would trill at us, now she just looks like she's ready to go. Is dosing her up on medication just delaying the inevitable.

I know the answer, I'm heart broken and just want reassurance I'm doing the right thing and that it's time to let her go.

Yes it’s time

Toddlerteaplease · 23/07/2024 17:04

Yes. She's telling you it time.

CatChant · 23/07/2024 17:07

It’s time to let her go.

I’m sorry. It always comes too soon for us.

Sadly you’re absolutely right. It’s time.
Our cat did exactly the same - hiding away under the kitchen table, not eating or drinking. Hard as it is it’s the kindest thing you can do for a pet.
Take care

Poor kitty. When she gets to that point you know she's not happy any more. It is the best and only decent thing to do. You've given her a great 18 years; now give her peaceful closure. If someone else were asking you about their cat you'd almost certainly give the same advice. It's so hard, of course it is. She'll be at rest while you'll be left behind without her. It's the price we pay for the love they share with us.

Thank you all for your kind words and reassurance. She peacefully passed over to the rainbow bridge this evening x

So sorry for your loss @ThisMerryLurker , such a tough decision and yet the greatest kindness you can do for your little one. Look after yourself too, take your time and be kind with yourself 💐

Anniegetyourgun · 24/07/2024 22:23

Bless her, and bless you. ❤

DontKeepScratchingIt · 24/07/2024 22:27

Please let her go. She's unhappy and probably feeling very unwell. 18 is a good age for a cat

Had several cats, over 40 years

DontKeepScratchingIt · 24/07/2024 22:27

So sorry, just read your update. Sorry for your loss. x

CatChant · 25/07/2024 16:23

It was the last gift you could give her.

But they leave such an emptiness behind.

Be kind to yourself. Time and the knowledge you gave her a happy life will help. Take care.
