Indoor cat missing

BiffandChip1 · 20/07/2024 21:00

Beside myself with worry as one of my indoor cats has gone missing. The kids have the door open all the time to play outside and I've not noticed she's gone out and she's still not back. She usually only ventures into our garden/sometimes the next door one but is back when she hears the front door shut. She usually sits meowing until she's let in. I'm so upset. She's never been gone this long. I've put a comfortable box and one of her cushions outside but otherwise I'm convinced she's been run over. She is chipped but I don't know the microchip number (yes I know, terrible). Me and my husband have been round and looked all over. What else can I do?!

Shake a bag of dreamies/treats and call her name
Post an image on social media incase anyone has her in their house/garden
Call local vets to see if any cats of her description have been handed in/are reported to be coming down. You could do this on Monday or contact OOH now if you’re really worried just to calm your nerves.

Ihatemondays1962 · 20/07/2024 21:04

Indoor cats don't tend to venture too far so when it gets slightly darker if you if you go outside with treats she might appear.

CormorantStrikesBack · 20/07/2024 21:05

Chances are she will come back of her own accord like any normal cat would. Don’t get me wrong I have two house cats and would be panicking but this is what I would tell myself. Definitely keep shaking the dreamies and calling her, especially once it’s dark/quieter tonight.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/07/2024 21:05

Mine spent five hours hiding behind next doors wheelie bin. She didn't go far.

CormorantStrikesBack · 20/07/2024 21:06

And as long as her chip is registered to you and has correct contact details on it doesn’t matter that you don’t know the chip number.

I lost my cat indoors once when he fell asleep in a an open drawer that someone later shut. Might she be shut inside somewhere indoors?

BiffandChip1 · 20/07/2024 21:09

Thank you so much think I just needed some rational responses like that. I'm praying she is just down the road somewhere and I can't quite see her yet. She's scared of cars and runs in if you go near her outside so I don't think she would even have made it far. I'll get her biscuits out once it's dark

I thought this - I have another cat who is permanently opening the bloody IKEA kallax boxes - and I thought have I shut her inside?! But I've checked them all

It's so hot she will probably mooch in when it cools down, please try not to worry. Mine only go out for 30 mins but one scared me last night staying out til midnight. You can shake dreamies and call outside neighbouring sheds and garages too.

ricecrispiecakes · 21/07/2024 07:14

Any news? Whenever mine go wandering they normally end up in someone's shed or garden. I'd she's not back you could knock around the neighbours and ask them to keep an eye out.

BiffandChip1 · 21/07/2024 10:01

Nothing. I've asked all the neighbours. I'm sure she's hiding somewhere as she's never been further than 3m from the house and cars/loud noises scare her. Getting really worried now 😪

Social media. My brother's indoor cat got out and we think was chased away from the garden a mile or so away.

A WhatsApp group was set up and after a couple of tries someone managed to get the cat for him

one of mine was trapped in a neighbours shed for 3 days so do keep on at the neighbours to check

Hope she comes back soon and is just lying low somewhere because of the heat

BiffandChip1 · 21/07/2024 11:54

Thank you that gives me hope. I've got her on FB so I'm hoping.

It's not even that hot here today 😔

One of mine hid for four days in next doors shed - he was never shut in, just too scared to come back out.

We eventually found him when I went out around 10pm and called him with a bag of dreamies - he called back to me but wouldn't come out, so I had to send DH to pull him out from behind a lawnmower while I guarded the entrance, lol. He was absolutely fine (if a bit dusty and hungry).

I also had a girl set up camp in the neighbours garden for several days - she ended up being poked out of a hedge with a large stick Grin again, she was absolutely fine, just hungry.

If she's not really an outdoor cat it's possible that something spooked her and she went to ground instead of trying to make her way home. Keep posting her on social media and maybe ask local dog walkers etc. to share her posts - they'll have a big reach in the pet community which could increase sightings.

I am so sorry up. Hope you she reappears today. Can you put up notices on lamp posts?

lollipoprainbow · 21/07/2024 12:22

A few years ago our indoor cat escaped one very hot July evening. My friend was leaving and he saw his chance to shoot out! I was distraught and we looked all over for him walking the streets, putting up posters all over the area, leaving all the windows wide open for him and the door to no avail.

Three days later I was putting the rubbish out and thought I would try calling him, imagine my delight when I heard a meow and found him hiding in the bushes of the communal car park!

Never give up hope x

BiffandChip1 · 21/07/2024 12:23

Thanks guys. Really keeping me going 😘😘 I've been out again but going to keep going today while I've got chance

Mine made himself completely invisible against the wall of the house and in some ivy. He didn't even make it two foot away before noping out of the whole Outside World thing and waiting in silence for DP to have a flash of inspiration and look for him.

WombatCowgirl · 21/07/2024 12:41

One of my cats escaped from the vet into the field behind the surgery, it was terrible as I could see him but not catch him and obviously we were miles from home. The vet leant us a cat trap, like a wire tube you put food in one end, I sat there for ages with a bowl of whiskas but he wouldn't come, but after a horrible sleepless night, the next morning when I arrived at dawn he was there in the trap, safely fed and grumpy. So if you can locate yours but not catch, do try to borrow a trap. It's early days for you, keep hoping and searching.

If nothing else some of these are cheering me up 🤣

Still no sign

Has she turned up yet?

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 22/07/2024 16:16

One of mine hid in the inner depths of a conifer. Fortunately she also mewed pathetically else I'd never have located her.

Another (an ex feral) escaped and made a new home in a neighbour's garden. That took a trap and a tin of tuna to retrieve him.

Fingers crossed yours turns up soon. They are a worry.

BiffandChip1 · 22/07/2024 21:02

No. I'm honestly heartbroken. Someone thought they saw her at midnight so I went out for 45m last night and it wasn't her.

Don't think I'll ever see her again

OnTheBoardwalk · 22/07/2024 21:07

Ah sorry it wasn’t her @BiffandChip1 it's only been 2 days which I know feels like a lifetime.

don’t give up hope

caringcarer · 22/07/2024 21:42

Go out about 3am in the morning when it is very quiet outside. Call her name. Keep calling as she might hear you and come a little way back each time you call. Put her cat litter outside your door. She might smell it and come home. Put a notice in local shops and library. If you have Next Door put a notice and her photo on there. A picture and your phone number on A4 paper inside a Polly pocket and tape to lampposts, near your home.
