We have had our home check today and on thur are going to meet two 12 week old kittens in the hope of adopting them (they are in rescue)

Just looking for tips on what to ask. Have had rescue cats before but it was back in 2007 and they were older (the died in 2023 and earlier this year)

Here are the cuties we are hopefully picking up as I understand a cat tax has to be paid on here

Go for it. What do you mean 'not sure what to ask'? Do you mean kittens in general ? I guess what they been vaccinated, have they had flea and worm treatment? Which I'm sure they have if they are in a rescue. They will be so lucky to go to a home together!

forgotmyusername1 · 15/07/2024 22:22

I guess should I be asking about their history?

Very cute , ask if you can get discounted neutering via the rescue .

Abitboring · 15/07/2024 22:25

Oh yes, I'd ask where they came from. But at their age they'll still adjust to almost anything, especially if they have been in company of other cats and humans which they will have. At 12 weeks it's not too late for that anyway.

How sweet you wonde what to ask 😃i bet you can't wait to take them home. In my mind they are already yours anyway.

BigcatLittlecat · 15/07/2024 22:26

Personally I think you should fail your home check and they should come and live with me!!! So so gorgeous!
Check if they have had a flea/worm treatment, have they been chipped and when are they due vaccines!
They will likely trash your house, but I'm sure you won't mind! They are so lucky to be going together! They will entertain each other! Let us know how you get on!

Abitboring · 15/07/2024 22:26

Maybe ask if they are microchipped already, which they will probably be.

fancyfrogs · 15/07/2024 22:28

Oh they are gorgeous!! I need to know their names 😁

Their current names are Teddy and Tia. I like them so if we get chosen they will keep those names.

My kids are so excited. Two boys 8 and 11. Will have to make sure they keep calm when they meet them

The rescue will give you loads of information about vaccinations, flea worm treatment, what food they're on, what litter they prefer etc. The only question you need to ask is "when can I take them home". Cuties!!

Allergictoironing · 16/07/2024 06:20

Ideally find out what food/litter they are on in plenty of time to get some in before they come home. You can change it later if you really want, but to start with they need something they are used to. Also ask if they've shown any preference to a particular type of toy - no use buying up Pets At Home only to find they will only play with crinkle balls!

If it won't be the day you visit them that you take them home, I would take something smallish with you like a towel or old jumper that smells of you/your family/your house so they can get used to the smell. In return, they will put their own smell on it so something familiar and comforting to bring with them when they do come home.

Check whether the rescue gives you the 1 month free insurance that some do, otherwise you'll need to get them insured asap.

Good luck!

So we met the kittens today. Absolutely fell in love with them.

We have reserved but it is touch and go if they will be ours. The mum was found in a box with 4 kittens. 2 have already gone and these two are left. It turned out mum was pregnant again and so whether we get them or not will depend upon when she gives birth as we are on holiday from end of next week to 6th Aug so were going to collect when we get back. They have warned us though that if she gives birth before we get back they will have to rehome the kittens immediately as mum will attack them.

Hopefully she will hold on until we can pick them up. If not and they go then we have first dibs on the new litter when they are ready

Female kittens can be fertile from 4 months so I’d have thought Tia, at least, would have been spayed by now or at least be booked in for it - the last thing any rescue wants is for its inmates to be getting pregnant!

They’re gorgeous, OP.

forgotmyusername1 · 19/07/2024 06:10

They are currently 12 weeks so not spayed yet. Something for 1 monthish time. The charity gives a voucher

Just a little update. They arrived on Wed as the fosterer had some other cats adopted and was able to separate them from mum.

Massive progress made in just a couple of days

They're gorgeous. I hope you're shaping up properly as a human servant?

forgotmyusername1 · 10/08/2024 07:47

Doing my best. They are starting to come out of their shells now. They are going to be absolute menaces- but have the cutest faces

Eeep!

Does going to argos at 8:30 am to buy them a cooling unit count as being a cat slave?

Their settling in room is on the warm side.
