Subcutaneous Injections

Hello everyone
Elton's mum here - as you have all been so helpful and kind so far I thought I'd ask for any advice again.
Elton as I have mentioned before is CKD stage 3 so pretty seriously ill although you wouldn't know it at the moment. At our most recent vets visit they suggested that we consider giving him subcutaneous fluids to help prolong his health.
I was all up for it at the surgery but thinking about it now I'm getting really anxious that I won't be able to do it and it will end up with Elton hating me. Does anyone have any words of advice or support? Cat tax attached

My Lola is also in stage 3, so I know how stressful it is. We're not doing subcu on her yet, but have done with other elderly cats, and it's not difficult but it is a little time-consuming from my memory as you have to hang the bag up somewhere so gravity gets the liquid down and through the needle. It never seemed to hurt or annoy any of the cats we did it for.

That said, has your vet recommended Hydracare? Basically a sort of liver soup in sachets that Lola loves, one or more a day. We started this in April, and she's still going strong, so maybe worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet?

I did this for my old boy when his kidneys had gone. Along with other medication the vets reckoned we got another year of quality life for him.
