Allergic to my cat - and nose blocked up at night time

I'm allergic to cats and I only found out after getting my cat. Generally I'm fine and I take antihistamines everyday so it's not too bad.

My cat sleeps with me every night and has done for years but recently I've found I am waking up in the night with a blocked nose etc. I also have hayfever.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help like maybe using an air purifier or something? I have also heard there are plants you can get that help purify the air to help you sleep better.

It's not an option to lock her out of my room and she will stay outside crying and I need my sleep. I know it sounds crazy but just wondering if there is anything that could help.

I find that the (more expensive) Fexofenadine anti-histamines work much better for my mild cat allergy. I also use a damp cloth beside my bed and wipe my face with it, that helps clear the hair and more importantly the dander away from my eyes and nose.

I knew I was mildly allergic to cats before I ever got mine, but have been proven right in that they are more than worth the extra effort!

Yes that's the antihistamines I use.

Yes they are so worth the effort, my cat is so cute and loves to sleep with me and wants to be as close to my face as possible which is very sweet but also she is killing me Grin

I take a nasal spray for my Hay-fever as well as antihistamines. Don't know if that will help you? You have to take a while before you see an effect but it does help

A nasal spray will help....I use otrivine which comes in drops or a spray. Take your antihistamine at night and use the spray and you should notice an improvement almost immediately x

There's cat food you can use that apparently makes them produce less of the allergens, no idea if works though and it's pricey.

Ban the cat from the room when you're not in there? Reduce the dander is the goal!

Can you air the bedding each day? Hang it over the bannister if you have stairs. Change the pillowcase every night if you can.

Wipe the cat down with dander reducing wipes before bed each night?

We also have two robot hoovers - one upstairs, one down. Makes a huge difference to the dust and fluff in the house.

So sorry for you becoming allergic to cat would be my nightmare!

DP is allergic to our cats so we have two of these, one in the bedroom. We’ve had them for several years so there could be better ones on the market now; I’d look for a washable filter if I was buying again. The cats are locked downstairs overnight, and only one is allowed in the bedroom in the morning for a cuddle on my side of the bed. Petal Cleanse is also helpful for others in his family who are more allergic.

Becanase nasal spray before bed.. Get Sorn pet wipes and give dcat a wipe off before she settles down for the night.

I've got the same problem.

Saline nasal spray, fenofexadine, hang my head down and blow nose morning and evenings. Having 2 pillows seems to help a bit as well so nose drains easily.
