Fleas not going away

flippingfleabag · 02/07/2024 21:21

Two weeks ago i paid £70 for my vet to treat my fluffy flea bag. They said it would last 3 months

I also treated my house on the same day

Just spotted a couple of little black mites crawling on her face

What do i do now? Return to vet for another £70

😫

What flea treatment was it? The fleas need contact with the cat to be killed

Indorex is supposed to be good for treating the house

summeroccupation · 02/07/2024 22:28

I'd get a flea comb and squish the little buggers.

You can't just treat the house once, you have to treat it gain once the existing eggs hatch. Some fleas are resistant to some treatments, so you need to keep swapping brands to get different active ingredients. If your cat goes outside she'll keep picking up fleas, so you'll need to do it regularly.

The used something super pricey which is only available on prescription . It was a
Liquid he put on her neck. Forgotten the brand name

I used indorex for the house. Will do another blast though

Every day? Every week?

The vet administered something which lasts 90 days

Should I keep treating with a shop bought treatment? They don't seem to work as i was doing that but she got fleas anyway

I don't want to over medicate my cat

What was the name of the treatment? Sometimes it can be a bit trial and error as to what works for your cat.

If you actually have an infestation, how many times have you used the Indorex and are you hoovering daily and washing all the soft furnishings etc too?

Pokemum24 · 03/07/2024 07:23

I have the exact same problem. Nothing from the vets ever really worked. I found flea tablets (from Amazon) really help. Also use a comb - I use the kids old nittygritty comb which traps them 1st. Good luck 👊

You'll see live fleas even when treatment is ongoing, as they often have to bite the cat to be killed. Just keep washing soft furnishing, hoovering, leaving flea powder down. It'll be your house that's infested as much as your cat. Remember that as soon as she goes out she'll pick them up again, so its just a case of keeping on and changing treatments every now and again, as certain flea will have immunity to certain active ingredients.

Indorex. The instructions say a can does a house, but I use a can for two rooms, and my room aren't big. Hoover daily. Not normal hoovering, but moving furniture and getting busy with all your crevice tools. It's like having a second job.

Indorex again a week later. If you don't feel like you're on the cusp of asphyxia keep going. And back with the hoovering. Should get sorted in a couple of weeks.

It's a pain isn't it? I ended up getting pest control in as nothing seemed to work. So far, flea free. Cost about £200.

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/07/2024 08:30

I have found combing is key. I use strong hold and my cat likes to hang with the local street cats who sadly I don't think get treated. He often comes in with a few visibly on him.

Thanks everyone

Lots of shallow bowls filled with hot Fairy water on the floor around the house. Fleas love a long soak. Bet you get loads!! Lots of vacuuming too.
