Crying cat?

Since one of our cats passed in March, his brother is constantly wandering around meowing in a weird way. At first I thought it was like him crying out but three months later it's still the same if not getting louder and worse 🙈 I'm wondering if I should get him checked or if it's normal behaviour.

Did he see the other cat after he died? He's probably looking for him still.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 26/06/2024 10:10

No he didn't 😞

He's calling for him. Poor lad.
Cats definitely grieve.
Would you consider getting another cat? I think your boy is lonely and missing his brother.

One of our db's cried for 5 months. Loudly on the patio. I caved and got a dkitten. Peace restored. 3 years in still happy with his new mate.. Do it op.
CPL had a lone dkitten. She was 1kg!! No regrets at all.

Oh bless. My old boy did this when his sister died. We considered another cat but he was 17 and we didn't think it fair on him. He sang mournful songs a couple of times a week in the bathtub till he too passed 3 years later at the age of 20 and 3 months. He had begin singing months before she died, but perhaps he understood how ill she was (cancer).

If your wee one is still quite young, a companion might not be a bad idea.

I'm still grieving so I suppose I can't be thinking he will be forgetting about him or moving on.

If its normal behaviour I can keep going with showering him with attention he deserves. I'm not sure about another cat, haven't been able to even think or look at other cats.

Forgot to say dbs were 8 when 1 died. Dkitten was 8 weeks when she came. Dumped her +a bed +second litter tray in the room dcat slept in. Hissed a couple of times. Bed shared within 2 weeks. Never had any negative behaviour.. Though poor ddogs may argue. Dkitten is fiesty compared to dcat!!

Oh my gosh they're just adorable! My boy that's still here is a black cat and looked like that as a kitten ❤️

Aww that's so sad and totally relatable to my boy. He is 10 so we could have a good while yet. Lot to think about...

At 10, we may well have got him a kitten to love. He snuggled up to his sister quite often, they really were quite close. It didn't feel fair to have a kitten leaping on him at 17, with a bit of arthritis slowing him down.

fieldsofbutterflies · 26/06/2024 11:40

He's grieving, bless him.

We lost one of our cats suddenly last summer and our oldest boy really grieved her - he was heartbroken and it was so awful to watch.

We got a new kitten after a month and he was enamoured.

I haven't been able to look before but I've been looking at cats up for adoption and now I'm obsessed with looking 🙈

It's hard to deny that dcat shaped hole isn't it? Been 4 years since we lost ours but feel less guilty that dcat has a friend again.

When I lost Boycat about a year and a half ago, Girlcat was incredibly clingy & miserable. She didn't cry much, but she's always been an almost silent cat. They were brother & sister, indoor only and had never been parted for longer than a vet visit. I work in office, so I knew just how unhappy she would be as an only, indoor cat with me out to work.

I'd been looking even before Boycat was pts, as we knew it could only be a few more weeks at best with him. I didn't really care whether the new cat would be particularly what I wanted, but had to be the best match possible for Girlcat. I went to the rescue we had got them from originally & got her a gentle (with other cats, especially female) younger boy the lovely Tobias. Even though he was shut in his own bedroom for the first 4 weeks to allow scent exchanging and so on, Girlcat was already less clingy almost right away.

17 months in, and he's devoted to her. She accepts his worship as her right (which is how it should be). They tend to be in the same room, do head bops whenever they walk past each other, and he happily grooms her head and neck. He's still not exactly cuddly with me, but I can stroke now & even when he bats at me it's without claws these days.

More evidence it's a good idea op..
