Where is my cat

MissingKitty · 21/06/2024 22:46

My 6 month old kitten doesn’t go out alone yet, but he’s started sniffing around the garden with us. Earlier he got too close to next doors fence and their dog lost his mind! Our kitten panicked and ran straight into their garden where the dog chased him around snarling and trying to eat him until his owner came and grabbed the dog and handed me my petrified cat back. The cat then scratched me to get away and ran straight back into the house… or so I thought!

Ive turned my house upside down and also searched the local streets and nothing. I figured he was just hiding at first but it’s been hours and he usually never shuts up meowing. Starting to get worried that he’s had a heart attack or something awful 😬 where is he?

Not sure anyone can help really but I’m not sure what else to do.

He's going to be hiding in the smallest space imaginable.

My massive lump of a mog scared himself and was completely silent and invisible until DP thought he saw a glint of an eye behind a plant pot near the bin.

Take a torch, make sure all the lights are off and see if you can catch his eyes indoors and around the edges of the house.

Scampuss · 21/06/2024 22:54

Hopefully he's hiding indoors somewhere, but if not you'll need to leave the flap/door/window open (ideally closing off the rest of the house so if he is already in, he can't get out again!).

And check his chip details are logged correctly.

I hope you find him soon @MissingKitty

Would he come out for a treat? Something fairly loud like biscuits or an extra bit of tea. My DCats come running when I open the cupboard where their food is kept.

dogoverman · 21/06/2024 22:58

My rescue cats went under the kitchen cabinets

AmelieTaylor · 21/06/2024 23:00

High value treats, the smellier the better!

Hopefully he's just tucked into some tiny space in the house.

I’ve tried the food and the treats, searching in the dark. Sitting silently to listen for signs of life, I’ve even searched under the cabinets! He’s so confident and meowy I just think he’d have made a noise by now if he was here or nearby outside. Can cats die from fright from dogs 😫 the dog even lives with cats and my older cat goes in there with no issues, not sure why the dog took such a dislike to my kitten sniffing the grass.

My cat was chased by dog once and I couldn't find her. She was mising 2 days and nights someone who lived in a house backing onto our road came round and asked if I had lost my cat. She was up a tree at the end of their garden. I believe she had been up there all the time. It took some time to get her down.

MissingKitty · 22/06/2024 06:02

Still no sign this morning! I’ve just been wondering and shouting him while the village is silent still and nothing.

Are you certain you saw him go back inside the house?

Leave his litter tray and something that smells of home outside the back door so that he can scent his way home if he's stuck or lost outside, bless him.

Kittens can act quite bouncy and skittish so I wonder if that's what triggered the dog. We don't let any of ours out until they're adults and a bit more sensible as I just don't trust a kitten 🙈

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 22/06/2024 07:35

Definitely put litter out, shake food he likes the sound of. Poor wee sweetheart 😭

He wasnt bouncy or skittish (they have kittens of their own anyway), he was walking with me and sniffed a leaf. He’s not allowed out properly but when I’m hanging laundry or putting the bins out he wanders into our garden with me and has a sniff and we wander back in together. Usually I find it a good way to start getting them
used to the smells of their environment before they’re allowed out.

But the good news is he has reappeared! I spotted a tiny head poking out of a gap, he’s got scratches all over him and he won’t come to me yet but he’s alive. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Bless him - please keep him in for a while and get him checked over by a vet if possible.

KikiShaLeeBopDeBopBop · 22/06/2024 08:36

Glad you've seen him,if I were you I would invest in a bunch of feliway and stick it all Iver the house, it will help him to feel safe again

MissingKitty · 22/06/2024 08:37

Thanks will do, we have a plug in somewhere so il track that down

Thank God for that!!

I think you've been doing the right thing, letting him out with you. At least you know now to stay away from the fence!!

the dog will have been put in his place re the cats it lives with & your older one. He'll get told to mind himself with the kitten too, in time.

Hopefully kitty will want cuddles with you soon. Personally I'd take him to the vet to get checked over as he's very scratched up.

Oh he won’t be going out for a while! We will start again with the harness if we do let him into the garden again in the future too. I’d happily keep him in forever but the older cat goes out so we will just have to see. And he will be off to the vet later today if I can get him in

Great news 😻

fieldsofbutterflies · 22/06/2024 09:32

I'm sure he's fine but always best to get them checked - especially if he's covered in scratches.

They do get themselves into a right panic sometimes.

Allergictoironing · 22/06/2024 09:32

Glad you found him OK. When mine were scared when they first came home from the rescue, they managed to get IN the sofa through a gap in the covers then hid in the recliner mechanism.

They were shut in one room at the time with no open windows and no exit except the door which I was very careful with so I knew they were in there somewhere. Worked it out when I came in the room and saw a tail vanish behind the sofa, looked & no sign of a cat but a suspiciously loose gap in the fabric between the sofa sections (modular sofa).

You may want to think about the feasibility of cat proofing your garden. That way older cat can still go out there, but kitten can't go wandering.

Floralnomad · 22/06/2024 11:15

Great news that you’ve found him , hope he feels better soon.
