Cat ear infection

Our older cat has an ear infection that was treated as mites initially (vet recommended drops for mites) and then after a culture was sent off, as a yeast-type infection (vet prescribed antibiotic ear drops).
After over £250 in vets bills it has come back again and I don't know what to do. Just seeing a vet is around £100 and the bottle of ear drops on prescription was £50!
Anyone had a similar experience/advice? Bit fed up with paying through the nose and not having the problem resolved.

I had similar issues with my cat. I found that getting a private prescription from the vet. And ordering online was much cheaper. My girl is on maintenance drops over weekly now. The vet gave me a six month repeat prescription.

That's a good idea, did you get to the root problem?

We think hers was initially caused by neglect/ untreated mites. She then got ulcers in her ears. And has had 3 eye ulcers as well. So into k something else is going on.

Unfortunately some cats just get chronic infections, often due to the shape of their ears rather than anything you've done (or haven't done).

I agree about getting the medication on prescription and buying online - I would also look at drops that are designed to keep their ears clean. We use Epi-otic but there are loads of options out there.

Yes. My cat told me to get the cleaning drops off Amazon. As much cheaper.

I took in a cat that had been homeless for 2 years after her owner had died. She also had a severe yeast infection in her ears amongst other things. My vet treated her with some sort of ear drops that are not approved for use in cats but worked for Bonnie. The vet put in the ear drops once per week and for 3 weeks because Bonnie's ears have a rather unusual shape due to living rough. I paid about 50€ per treatment.
