Good morning,

We've this lovely friendly cat that visits us everyday. And I absolutely love her (and the 4 other cats who spend their days in our little garden!). Can anyone please identify the breed please? I'm thinking of maybe seeing if we can go to our local rescue centre and take one home. Thank you!

She's a moggy.

wagnbobble · 14/06/2024 07:42

Agree probably a moggy but more importantly if that’s normal cows milk you need to stop . Cats will drink it but many ( most??) are intolerant and it causes gut issues . I keep having to tell our lovely but elderly neighbours that it’s really not good for my cats and it’s killed the hedgehog . Apologies if I’ve just projected and it’s cats milk ( just upset about the needless death of the hedgehog)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/06/2024 07:44

Looks like a moggy. The best type of cat.

Danikm151 · 14/06/2024 07:45

as @wagnbobble said.
please don’t give cats regular milk.

cartoon stereotypes have a lot to answer for

User478 · 14/06/2024 07:48

That's not bread that's a cat, hope this helps.

Show the photo to the people at the rescue and say you want one that looks like that.

Milk can cause diarrhoea in hedgehogs but it’s not poisonous.
I think it’s rather a leap to accuse your neighbours of killing a hedgehog! It could have died for a number of reasons.

Could be a Ciacatta?

DogInATent · 14/06/2024 07:54

Domestic short hair.

After that typo you need to be calling it Hovis.

😂

Must admit I was hoping to be tested on my knowledge of all things granary and bap related.

Its cats milk, as we don't drink milk. But I was none the wiser about cats not being able to drink cows milks so thank you.

Meowltigrain Bread?

I'll see myself out.

Does it do a good loaf? 🍞

aerkfjherf · 14/06/2024 08:36

I am glad you are enjoying the cat and looking for a rescue, but please dont choose on looks. Cats have all different personalities like humans. We have had many, and cats that look the same can be totally different. Tell the rescue what personality traits you are enjoying in this cat, is she soppy and cuddly, curious, playful, etc.

I have my last surviving black cat sitting on my lap right now. He is low intelligence, scared of strangers, but quite loving with us, who he knows. Other black cats we have had have been bold, friendly, playful, energetic, dopey, timid, aggressive, genius, thoughtful, impulsive, sly, rowdy, deceitful, loving, authoritive, motherly, selfish....

the only thing they had in common was black fur!

And also be prepared, if you get a cat, it might not get on with all your feline visitors.

Good luck!

this, milk isn't good for hedgehogs, but is unlikely to kill them - even if it did, it would have been sadly a very weak and vulnerable hedgehog and unlikely to survive anyway

Wolfiefan · 14/06/2024 08:39

Stop buying cat milk for a cat that isn’t yours and has a home.
Never get a cat based on appearance. Always character.

AnnaMagnani · 14/06/2024 08:46

Please don't feed or give cat milk to cats that aren't stray.

You have no idea if they need a special diet or if their owner is trying to manage the cat's weight.

And it encourages the cat to hang around your house instead of going home.

Thanks for the advice. Surely if I was getting a kitten (which I am not planning to), I'd have no idea of their personality??

DietCokeandHulaHoops · 14/06/2024 08:50

That looks like a British Shorthair to me.

In terms of personality the breed can be quite aloof (but not always).

Nicebloomers · 14/06/2024 08:53

Please don’t feed cats that do not belong to you. If you wish to donate food to animals you can often drop it off at food bank collection points.

If you go to a rescue centre they will help you to find a kitty that will fit in best with your lifestyle. It’s often much better to get a pair of kittens rather than just one so they have a friend.

You may have territory issues down the line if you have encouraged non-resident cats to claim your garden as territory.

FabricPattern · 14/06/2024 08:56

I've adopted cats at all ages - kittens blend in to the family more easily, older cats personalities need accommodating. My daughter's cat was a kitten that we brought home at 8 weeks and they've played together every since. He runs over to be dressed up when she gets out his outfits or to receive a bow tie collar with a bell (seriously, he sits there purring his stupid head off for her to put his collar on). Me, he tolerates. Fairy certain he wouldn't be so accommodating had we rehomed him when he was older. Having said that, we also have lots of older cats who just find their own way to fit in

Absolutely - I'm not sure why so many people feel it's acceptable to feed other people's cats.

You won't have much idea from how a cat behaves in rescue either. Many shut down in shelters and only show their true personalities once they've spent a few months settling in.

The advantage of a kitten is that you can make sure it's healthy and well-socialised, as well as used to being handled, put in a carrier, taken to the vets etc.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/06/2024 09:19

It's a focatccia.
Sorry. 🤣

Elieza · 14/06/2024 10:09

It looks like a British shorthair. Have a google and see if you agree. Could be a cross. It's lovely.

However it would be best if you stop feeding it for two reasons.

One, it's not yours and if it gets fed by two or five or ten people who love it as much as it's owner, it'll get fat or perhaps ill !!

And two, if you plan on getting your own cat it will want your garden as it's territory, not that wandering cats territory, so that other cats shouldn't really be around or there will be fights.

Cats are great.
