New-ish senior rescue cat and holiday

My 19 year old girl came home with me at the start of April. She is settling in well and seems to be a timid, keep herself to herself kind of cat but does love to chill in bed with me. She is old but doesn’t act it!

I’ve booked a last minute family holiday at the end of June (before my mum starts chemo again) and I’m so worried about what to do with the cat! I was hoping to pick the brains of the hive mind of the litter tray ☺️

My options are:

  1. Book her into a cattery for the week. At least she would see people/get attention for a lot of the day but I’m worried she would think she was going back to the SSPCA again. (Also the good catteries are probs fully booked by now!).
  2. She goes to my friends house for the week. Friend works outside the house all day and it’s an unfamiliar environment so she would probably just hide all week, but at least it’s a nice house and my friend loves cats.
  3. She stays at home and I get a cat sitter to come for an hour in the morning and friend for an hour in the evening. At least she would be in her normal environment but I’m not sure about leaving her for 22 out of 24 hours!

Option 3 for sure. You can’t uproot a cat that’s already been passed around at that age. And I’m guessing at her age she’s sleeping for 18 of the 24 hours or thereabouts? You could leave a radio on in one room, and get friend to play / groom her when she’s visiting so it’s a busy visit not just food and run

Definitely keep her at home.

Thanks both. I feel more protective of this wee girl than any other cat I’ve had! I think because she’s so old and I have no idea what her life has been like. She had to be removed from her last owner by the SSPCA so I think it was pretty bad 💔

She’s living her best life now!

Ah she is gorgeous!

Option 3 is the least disruption for her

Oh she is gorgeous, and looking fab for her age.

Option 3. I couldn't leave mine in a cattery because they came from a rescue and to me it would feel cruel taking them somewhere that could remind them of that.

I always leave mine at home, with someone (usually my parents) coming in twice a day to feed them. They know my parents so it feels nice as they have a familiar face, and my parents always make a fuss of them.

She is also gorgeous, what a beautiful lady!
