9 month old kitten not come home

I've got 2 9 month old kittens who I let out during the day when I am at home and they regularly hop over the wall into the neighbours garden and beyond. 90% of the time they come back within a minute or so of being called, but tonight I've called and called (and walked round the block a few times) and one of them hasn't come home.

We have a cat flap but he doesn't know how to use it. We are in the city so I don't feel comfortable leaving the back door open all night.

What do I do?!

We have a sofa in the kitchen and I don't know whether to sleep on that so if he does come back I can let him in (if he doesn't use the cat flap).

Oh no. I don't want to worry you but I think it's strange that they didn't stay together. Could someone have taken him ? Sometimes people just see a little cat outside and they think it's a stray because it's outside or because it acts hungry

One of mine did this earlier in the week. Normally she's in when I go to bed. Sometimes she's not and I get up during the night to let her in (I need to pee or get a drink). Still not in at 3. Ohhhhh shhh,........ Woke up at 8, she's curled up between my knees.

Cats. Weird people.

It's normal for them to be in and out, sometimes they go together and sometimes they go separately. But yes I do wonder if he has gone into someone's house or something, not sure about being taken but of course it's possible.

How did she get in? Through the cat flap?

He is home! Went at midnight to call again in the garden, I rattled the treats with no response and then whispered his name. I heard a noise on the wall and there he was with a big tail, jumped down and flopped at my feet. He is now having some food to get over his ordeal (or maybe that’s just me!).

Thanks for keeping me company whilst he was missing. I’ll shut him in earlier tomorrow!!

Oh the little devil, look at that handsome face! So glad he's home. I try to be angry when mine swan in at some ungodly hour and we have been worried sick but they are always forgiven immediately.

Kittensat36 · 09/06/2024 04:12

Glad your furry little rat ..... Darling got back okay. Look at that face. Butter wouldn't melt.

Mine got in the bedroom window, left open to facilitate her return.

Wolfiefan · 09/06/2024 06:47

Oh that face!! So glad he is home.

Id start teaching them to use rhe cat for today. He's gorgeous btw.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 09/06/2024 07:04

He looks very unconcerned by it all. As they always do when you’ve been a wreck, cried, rang the chip company, had a row with your partner over who let them out and written the eulogy and they amble up the drive.

TerfTalking · 09/06/2024 07:11

Very happy for you, most do come up in 48 hours. Little sod will have been watching all the great things that happen at night from bugs to bats, rats and foxes. It’s also likely he caught, and ate, a snack to keep him from coming back.

I also bring mine in before dusk as I won’t get them in if I don’t.

BiscuityBoyle · 09/06/2024 07:12

So glad he’s back, little sod.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 09/06/2024 11:45

We are practicing with the cat flap today. They are very proficient at going out but need a little encouragement to come back in! At least I know they can do it though.
