Family cat suggestions

Hello,
I always had cats growing up, just rescue ones. They were a bit of a mixed bag, some absolutely amazing ones and a couple of pretty feral ones who occasionally acknowledged us but made it clear they’d prefer we weren’t there 🤣
we have 3 kids (8,5,3) and they’re desperate for a cat. They adore the neighbours who is now becoming a little too comfortable in our garden as they lavish it with attention.

could anyone suggest a breed which would be good with kids and enjoy the attention rather than despise it!

thanks

Neutered male is the best bet.
Moggys are great.
If you really want to go down the breed route get a Burmese.
Like a Siamese but not as loud or as distinctive in appearance.
Dog like and love people very cuddly and good with children.
They demand to be held!
They are a healthy and sturdy breed. I recently read they live the longest of any type of cat.
They can go out if you live in a safe area. They enjoy going out.
Short hair that feels like velvet.

Do some reading.

I went to the rescue hoping to get a youngish small female with short hair. I came away with the most enormous long haired tuxedo male, they guessed he was about six. Sometimes you just bond with the cat from the first. Thirteen years later he is perfect and still going strong.

I'd go for an adult moggie. The most affectionate cat I knew when my DS was small was my DFs big ginger boy. He absolutely loved my DS.

All our cats have been rescues including one pedigree.

Ragdolls.
They typically crave attention, very affectionate, so loving. We have one who is more typical. It gets to the point I have to push him away (toddler trying to nap and he'll just try and squeeze between us!). He'll follow us everywhere. His half brother is more aloof, and not typical Ragdoll. Ragdolls are also known as 'puppy cats' as they are similar to dogs in personality. The only downside it they are usually kept as house cats (mine are) as most wouldn't survive outside. Mine would most certainly flop in front of a car and not budge.

Editing to say - I have a 2 year old son. One will let him cuddle and do basically anything to (so I have to watch he doesn't hurt the cat as he's so laidback!)

Edited

We were lucky enough to get a ragdoll / Birman mix kitten from the RSPCA. He was wonderfully soppy and affectionate but also went outside, hunted wood mice and had fights. We have two pedigree ragdolls across the road who also go out and about.

I am aware some Ragdoll owners let their cats out (hence, I said usually kept as house cats). We've done it a few times ourselves. It calls for judgement of your own cat and their personality I suppose. Like i say, one of mine is typical Ragdoll who wouldn't budge if a car came towards them. The other would probably be okay, as he's more skittish. They are half brothers but very different! We have a lot of cats getting run over in my area (lucky if a week goes by where someone hasn't posted on our town's Facebook page to say they've found one dead on the road). Not exaggerating. If we lived somewhere more rural I would feel a lot safer to let my boys out. They have supervised access to our garden for now.
