Old-ish cat advice

Hi,

Long story, very condensed (background), I have recently lost faith in my vets given a long undiagnosed issue with another pet and am currently on the waiting list (!!) for the only other vets nearby.

My cat is 12, fairly highly stressed anyway. He all of a sudden seems very old. His coat is dull and he looks a mess. Scraggly. He's sleeping a lot more than usual. He seems to be walking very slowly and gingerly (but no sign of injury when I've checked him over). Still eating, but a bit hit and miss (he isn't the best eater anyway)

Does this warrant a vet visit given I don't think I'll believe what they say anyway. My only other option is to pay £200 "emergency" vet fee until I'm on the new vets books. I can't really afford that at the moment but will if I have to.

Thank you

Cats mask pain really well. Your puss might have arthritis and be in considerable pain. You must take him to the vet. Our mog was like yours and when we took him to the vet it seemed he had urinary/kidney problems which were diagnosed after tests, as cancer. Two days earlier he seemed to be fine and yet the vet said he would have been distressed. If he is not grooming himself he is probably quite poorly. I repeat, go to the vet.

Ok thanks. He has had urinary issues before but they present in a very clear and obvious way so I'm pretty sure it's not that again.

I'll get him seen tomorrow.
