Insurance Question

Our cat had his leg amputated after an accident last year, during the course of getting it sorted his insurance ran out so for ease we just let it automatically renew.
I’m now thinking of when we need to renew it later in the year, I’m assuming we’d now have to declare his missing leg as a pre-existing condition? If we stay with our current insurer, who obviously know what he’s been through we wouldn’t have to declare it as such but would pay the price for not being able to shop around at renewal time? Does anyone have any experience?

I don't know a huge amount of pet ins . but I always thought it gives them some idea of what you're like as a pet owner . Like it does give them an idea what you're like if say every puppy you have tends to have a claim at 0-6 months .Never had cats though .

I wouldn't say an amputated leg is a health condition if it was caused by an accident rather than, say, cancer.

It's not really a pre existing condition as it can't reoccur. You might have to mention the surgery though as past treatment but I can't see how it could affect any future claims as amputation is a one off thing!

Thank you, wasn’t sure if say he got arthritis in his remaining back leg they might say it would be due to his amputation so pre-existing and wouldn’t cover the arthritis treatment. I’ll have to make enquiries when we come to renew. The online bits I’ve read all just mention health conditions like cancer and diabetes or if your pets limping before you take out the insurance.

I would make sure you mention it just so they don't have an excuse to wriggle out of paying down the line!
