Kitten not using the litter tray

I've recently adopted 2 kittens who were rescued from a home where they were poorly treated.

They are 10 months old and until a few weeks ago had never been fed cat food. They were seriously underweight.

They were in foster care until I picked them up at the weekend.

One has taken to the litter tray no problem at all but the other is still doing the toilet in the bath.

I've placed a second litter tray in my bath last night however I've still 💩 beside it.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas how I can help and encourage him to use the tray.?

They might not like the litter you use. My Bengal would only use wood chip in the cattery if I bought it for home use he'd wee on the cooker top.

Try an ultra clumping one, small granules are soft to stand on.

Cats can be divas when they realise their home.

Our previous cat stopped using the litter tray as soon as we starte
dcletting her out. If she was ever desperate she would always go in the bath, despite having access to two trays (we kept her in overnight). The vet said the bath looks like a massive litter tray, which I can kind of see. No help to you but I think this is not uncommon!

She was sadly pts recently and we now have a wee rescue boy who won’t toilet outside, and likes to wee in one tray and poo in the other, just to keep us on our toes.

Second pp idea of trying different litters, although with our girl I think we tried every one on the market. She was a nature-wee kind of cat!

When mine did this the rescue said to scoop up the poo and put it into the tray and sprinkle litter over it. This worked for us.

I think I read on here it's best not to use clumping litter for kittens in case they swallow it.

Bengals are magnificient btw.

PS Weeing on the cooker top is inventive!

Try different litter, no litter and a puppy pad and see if any appeal.

Is the tray always clean?

With 2 cats ideally you need 3 trays, can reduce later if they don't use them all.

Definitely give him a separate tray. Is there a time of day he tends to poop? My kittens were quite regular. When it gets to that time put him into the tray. If he poops elsewhere, put the poop in the tray and put him next to it, as soon as he's done it. That seemed to work for me as he used it soon after that.

@gladwhiskers, I think that’s for small kittens because they do silly things. Op said this kitten is 10m old so more teenager than toddler, it should be over eating litter by now.

Bengals are the best cats ever.

Thanks everyone, some good ideas to try.
I'll get some puppy pads tonight.
I've only had the kittens since Saturday and considering the environment they came from, poorly treated by owner they have settled well. I am using a combination of wood litter and absorption litter as this is what the foster carer used. They were in foster care for 2 weeks as one had surgery to remove foreign objects they had eaten. This is the one who is not using the litter tray.
The other one is using fine.

I won't be letting them out for a while as they are too little but it's always an option when they're bigger ❤️

Thanks. I stand corrected!

One of mine is four and will still pee/poo in the bath if given the chance so we just don't let him in the bathroom - when he doesn't have access to it, he uses the litter tray as normal and never goes anywhere else.
