Catproofing, how effective is it please?

Just that really. DD’s cat is currently on an extended stay with me with no end to the stay in sight!
I don’t mind her being here, but she is really wanting to go out. DD has her as an indoor cat so doesn’t want her having free rein but I’m wondering about the cat proofing to go on top of the fence.

How effective is this please? I’d hate for her to manage to climb over it.

I've seen it be effective - but it was a mega fancy professionally installed one! Bloody ginormous too. It was metal posts secured to the fence with a mesh lip at the top, sort of similar to the top of big cat enclosures at zoos!

Do you think the cat will be going back to your DD? I'd probably not give it a taste of outdoor life if it's destined to go back to being an indoor only cat, would be a bit unfair imo.

Oh really, not sure I want to be adding that to my garden!
I’ve had a look online but not convinced the cat wouldn’t manage to somehow bypass the mesh.

I had thought of that, I’m not sure if the cat will be going back, if she does it won’t be for at least a year. I used to have a catio, might invest in one of those instead.

Think it depends on your garden, some people rate the 'prison mesh' type, others a sort of roller attached to the fence which the cat isn't supposed to be able to get a grip on.
Actually a catio sounds better especially if you have had one before so you know it works for you, and I hope you have many happy hours with your furry long-time lodger!

An active determined cat can still get over the fencing systems. The only safe way is a catio built on to the house.

Thank you @Pudmyboy! She’s a sweetie ☺️

I agree with you and @Blackcats7, a catio is the safest option for her.
She isn’t streetwise at all, I’d hate for anything to happen to her.

Just as a FYI for anyone reading this thread: roller systems are effective, but you need to remove jump points. They can’t get over when they jump straight up, but if they only have a metre to jump and they’re on an angle, then they will get over.
I’ve found ours so effective that the cats don’t even try jumping now.
