Window locks?

I need something to allow ventilation, but keep my cat in.
What do other people use?
My window are upvc double glazed, so it would be better not to drill I think. Maybe there's something that can hook around handles?

Flat cat screens. Absolutely brilliant!

They stick on with Velcro and you just unstick them, open the wi die and reseal the Velcro.

Another vote for Flat Cats, they're brilliant. Very strong, the only way we've been able to get decent ventilation upstairs without worrying she's going to get outside.

I think they might not be the best answer with our wooden blinds, it would be really awkward to lift the blind then un velcro...

I can't see why it would be an issue. I've got blinds on my bedroom window.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2024 22:19

You only unpeel it enough to get your hand in, to open the handle.

Flatcats are amazing and a real game changer!

There are two handles and one is really high up, it's awkward without the blind or anything else tbh.

I've made my own flatcat-type screens using some wire mesh (it's like a square grid, about 7mm square, Amazon) and duct tape binding the edges, then that adhesive velcro to the frame and the screen. So far it's worked! I've only made three because I ran out of duct tape Grin but will do more. I'm a bit concerned that my climbing kittens will try and scale the one I plan to use on our patio door, and pull it down...

One side benefit so far is that the mesh keeps all the nesting queen wasps out! (I don't think it'll keep their tinier children out but that's months away.)

We had 3 remarkably stupid Burmese cats. Lovely, but so stupid they were not allowed out into the (cat proofed garden) without supervision. We had cat screens on some windows for a while - the sort that are attached by Velcro - until the most stupid of the 3 worked out how to detach the screen from the window.....

Toddlerteaplease · 08/05/2024 11:21

@Noseyoldcow not that stupid then!!

I bought these, they do need drilling but it's inside the frame where it's not visible. They work well, and easily undone if you want to open the window properly.

My cat would definitely climb flatcats screens, and is not light. He also chews absolutely everything and is surprisingly destructive if he gets an edge to become loose. He'd happily eat Velcro given half a chance.
