Very large cat carrier!

One of my cats is huge. He’s long and big. We have two cat carriers and neither of them are big enough. We just can’t get him in at all, plus he puts up a massive fight and it’s a very stressful experience for all! I have a vet appointment this Saturday so I’m looking on Amazon now for a very large cat carrier. Does anyone have a Maine coon or similar sized breed? And if so please could you link me to what carrier you have?

Have you tried looking under dog carriers as well? Carriers for medium dogs up to 15kg may be about right for a Maine Coon...

A possible problem you may find is that the larger carriers tend to be soft fabric zip up ones, which many cats are smart enough to open - as happened to my friend on the way to the cattery a couple of weeks ago!

So our foster fail is huge- took him for his booster and he is 7.kg- but a lean and healthy boy. Sorry cannot link as we have inherited the carrier we use somewhere along the line cat fostering, but it is intended for use as a cat air kennel.

I do actually have a cat kennel type of thing that goes in the boot of a car to transport them. But thought it might be a bit too big to carry into the vets 😂

Mine is 7.5kg and refuses his old cat carrier. Plus it's too heavy now so I use a trolley. I use a harness on him and have some childlocks on it. Seems more safe than those flimsy options that are around.

Are you sure you don't have a puma OP?!

@willstarttomorrow I had to google foster fail because it sounds tragic and made me feel 😔 for the cat. But I figured it must be OK really, because here you are in the litter tray. And now I am happy for you and puss that you have found each other 😊

I think I would have to invent a different phrase in your shoes!

Goodness some of your kitties are mahoosive! I thought mine was big at 5.74kg but she's tiny compared to your pet lions!!

We have a collapsible dog carrier for our Maine Coon. If you do a search, there are lots on Amazon.

We use a small dog carrier for our oldest - he was 8.5kg at his last check up and has since been put on a diet 😂

I use a small dog carrier for one of mine - it's a top loader too, which really helps because he is terrified (he's convinced I'm abandoning him, he was dumped on the streets in lockdown) and very strong. Once inside he settles much faster in a more spacious carrier and he doesn't fight me when I put him in it.

MDC make the best cat carriers. Used by all rescues. They have an extra large version www.mdcexports.co.uk/product/large-carrier-basket/

Once you've found a large enough one, here's my tip for getting resistant cats in.

I clasp screaming cat firmly to my tummy and advance towards the carrier, manouvering my tummy and the attached cat into the opening. There isn't really anything he can do to stop it, once I have him firmly clasped :)
