We have two adorable kittens who are now about ten weeks old and have had them a week or so. They've settled in beautifully and are still living in our bedroom while they get used to the smells and sounds of their new home. They used their litter trays from the onset (with one or two mishaps) but we have floor length curtains that cover floor length windows ]in the bedroom and they pool a bit at the bottom (my fault, never took them up properly). The little darlings have enjoyed hiding behind the curtains when they're drawn and also, the last couple of nights, peeing on the bits that sit on the floor! It's my stupid fault for having too-long curtains.
But never mind the curtains (currently in the wash), which can be replaced if necessary - we have wooden floorboards in the bedroom which now reek! I scrubbed the areas with bathroom disinfectant spray (not Dettol as I've read it's harmful to cats) and all that's done is take what remained of the knackered varnish off (or maybe that was the kitten pee). The boards stink. What is the best way of lifting cat pee smell from wooden floorboards, and is there anything I can do to deter them from continuing to pee there if it now smells like a cat toilet?
