Cat scratching at bedroom door

Our lovely old boy (14 years old) has started scratching at the bedroom door at night and we need to work out how to stop that behaviour. My partner has asthma and we can't have a cat sleeping on the bed as although he has got used to the cats he is definitely still allergic. Previousy both cats were fine sleeping elsewhere in the house at night.

My partner gets up for work at 5am and both cat had got used to being fed wet food as soon as he got up, they have dry food down all the time. We noticed about a year ago that at weekends they would start making a loud fuss around 5am when they were expecting wet food, so I had started getting up to feed them and then go back to bed. This has been getting earlier and earlier (2am) and is happening every day now. Merlin has taken to scratching at the bedroom door after he's eaten and we need it to stop. Does anyone have any ideas how we can stop this? He has access to the spare room bed, but it's our room he wants to come in to.

The first thing I'd try is providing a heat pad wherever you want him to sleep. If he's heat seeking then this might help.

You could also provide food in a puzzle feeder to keep him busy and tire him out.

We lock ours in the kitchen where we can’t hear them scratching.

Has he been checked by a vet? I'd be concerned about feline dementia at that age.
