Cat drooling at mouth with black chin.

Hi guys,

My Cat went missing over night and came back yesterday. He's got a black grazed chin and is drooling a clear type gel from his mouth.

Inside his mouth looks black. He's very grumpy and wants to be alone.

He's peed in the corner, on the mat at the front door which he's never done before.

Does anyone have any experience with similar? Obviously we will take him to the vets as soon as we can.

Thank you for reading,

He may have sustained an injury to his mouth. I think it's an emergency vet job. Of course it will happen on a back holiday!

They have a radar for bank holidays cats do. Hope puss is alright.

Yep I'd say an emergency vet's visit. My last poor cat came home and I couldn't work her out. Her claws were hurt.

She was purring and everything. She was put to sleep an hour later as she'd be run over. They said she had a jaw injury too.

Cats are programmed to never look ill as they'd be a target for predators. So it's really hard to tell in some cases.

🙏🏻 your 🐈‍⬛ is fine x

Emergency vets asap. Could have ingested a toxin, or an injury. If it's a toxin, the quicker he gets seen the better.

dancemom · 31/03/2024 09:48

Please take them to the vet ASAP, they could be seriously unwell and in a lot of pain

Yes vets. Good luck OP (my cats always target Christmas and Bank Holidays for their vet visits too)

I might be completely wrong here, but years ago my cat came home with her face and chest covered in creosote, which was black. Her mouth and chin were black too from licking her fur. I dumped her straight in the sink and tried to wash it off initially, but took her to the vet within the hour, as I know how toxic it was.
They have a shower room and washed her thoroughly and she was fine.
Hope your cat is ok

He should have been taken to the vets yesterday, but hopefully you've taken him today since posting.

Check the claws too, if you can. If they're worn or injured, I would guess they have been knocked down by a car. In any case, it's an emergency as they are showing significant signs of distress.

Oh the poor cat!
My first thought was mouth injury. I hope he will be okay op.
