Cat and neighbour building noise

I live in a terraced house and have a house cat. Next door will be doing huge renovation works, for months.

I can escape the noise by going to work, obviously my cat cannot. Do they get used to it or will she be a nervous wreck, as leaving aside all the bangs and drilling how will she get enough sleep?

She is very nervous by nature but mainly around people and movement, she seems to feel quite secure in the house in general and knows that street noises don't mean danger. When we've been in the garden she seems unbothered about loud planes going overhead.

I think your gorgeous ginger princess will get used to it. I'd say cats can sleep through anything, especially when the realise the scary noises can't hurt them. Make sure she has some safe places to hide that make her feel secure, like an igloo or covered cat bed, even a cardboard box. Some Feliway plug ins might be worth doing.

When Temporary Cat arrived he was petrified of loud noises, having lived very rurally at the end of a country lane with no through traffic. I'm in London in a flat with neighbours above, below and next door, with residents in the block driving cars and loud scooters down the driveway and a busy road with buses and lorries. He was always getting startled and dashing off to hide under my bed. But now he sits on the windowsills watching the world go by regardless of the road noises.

He also endured 6 weeks of renovations in my flat, including the builders using a loud nailgun on the floorboards to stop all the squeaks before putting a new flooring over the top. He was a bit jumpy at the nail gun & and hid a bit from that but far far less nervy than when he first got here. He'd sleep on my bed or a windowsill in the sun, happily ignoring the builders racket.

Good to know, thank you! Come to think of it, when I first got her (as an adult rescue) she was scared of fireworks and hid under the kitchen units. She now isn't bothered by them at all. I think I just have to try and model that there is nothing to worry about, move her igloo to the quietest place in the house, plug in the Feliway and hope for the best.

You can get calming spot ons, diffusers and capsules for their food if she’s stressed.

Oh yes the capsules, thank you, I forgot about them.
