Cat of intermittent age ( when we got it from the RSPCA years ago, they gave it a rough age of 3 so he's about 15 now) has stopped grooming himself beyond his back legs. He got matted so took him to the vet who checked him.over and then partially shaved him. ( Bless). He's now starting to get matted again. Any advice? Ta ps he's otherwise (AFAIK since last month's vet visit), fine, eating, drinking, pooing etc. He's also v nimble for his age jumping down fences and running up and down stairs.

When our old man got to this stage, we brushed him everyday with a very soft gentle brush for as long as he would tolerate. We also shaved the matts out regularly with a pet trimming thing. He was going to the vet monthly for arthritis jabs, so the vet would also shave anything we missed. So quite a bit of work for us and not always tolerated by him

Just to add we only shaved off the actual matted bits so he wasn’t fully shaved. The vet did the same. He only had problem right by his tail and around that area. He was still spritely and dapper but couldn’t quite get to that area

Thanks for the replies. Have tried the soft brush thing so will look for the pet hair trimmer

Hi I’ve got the same problem with my old boy. I’ve just ordered this off amazon after seeing it being recommended on a fb page. I’m hoping that it will do the job.
