I have two cats, a brother and asister indoor cats, the female cat as starting again eating her fur. I brought her last yearto the vet when it happens and vet told me that she needs her teeth removed and to book dental appointment, pet dentist told me her teeth were perfect, no issue, they did blood test and nothing show at all and they have no clue what could caused it. It got better but now it is happening again. Anyone has any idea? Thanks

Could it be stress? Is she moulting? Is she bored? Some cats just over-groom and need to be distracted to try and break the habit...

By eating what do you mean? Licking/pulling/biting?
Bald spots?
Could be stress or allergies..I have a cat that will groom herself bald from flea bite allergy or changes to her environment. It's not really anything to do with her fur really. She's an anxious cat .

It could be anything from stress to fleas to allergies to pain. Does she have any other symptoms? Is it in one particular area of her body?

No symptoms that I can see except the bald patch on her fur. Her brother has no issue, I took 2 cats to avoid boredom for them.

Do they have access to outside?
Toys and furniture?
Lots of food and water and trays so they're not having to fight over resources?

Our male has been over grooming , the vet suggested cutting out fish as some cats have allergies.
His sister is fine
They both have access outside.microchip catdoor
He is very nervous ,there have been other cats in the garden which I think is stressing him out

Both my cats are indoor cats. Vet recommended not to have them outside, the girl was si tiny that the vet cod only neutered her whe she was a years old, his brother was done at 5 months. She is still a tiny cat in comparison to her brother.

There is plenty of food and water for them, cat tree and toys.

Why did the vet recommend they stay indoors?

Yirk · 17/03/2024 08:03

My cat does this occasionally when bored or stressed, so try distracting when it's doing it, it's called over grooming.
Fur always grows back, I put a few drops of olive oil on her grooming brush, this stops her skin being sore and her coat silky , the oil doesn't hurt them as its a natural oil.

My previous cat did this when something changed in the house

She knew I was pregnant before I did. I noticed her pulling out the fur on her back when I was about 5 weeks old- really early on - I'd not even done a test. Then she had a whole bald strip on her back for the duration of my pregnancy, stopped immediately DS was born and it all grew back. It was so weird. Must have been my hormones she was sensing
