Recurring feline cystitis help please

Hi 👋 I have a 14 year old female cat who has been suffering with stress related recurring feline cystitis for about the last 2 years. We have been back and forth at the vets and they usually just keep me topped up with metacam to manage it at home when she has an episode. She’s been really bad this week like every day and this morning I was woken up at 5am to her howling and scratching round in the litter tray and wanting to go in the garden. After about an hour of trying frantically to wee she passed this lump and I’m not sure what it is. Our vets don’t open at weekend and going to the emergency vets is a huge stress for her so would prefer not to go if we don’t need to. Any ideas what it could be and if it requires a trip to the emergency vets? Google isn’t much help, I’m thinking it’s either a bit of her bladder wall or possibly a mucus plug? It was quite firm in texture though and she seemed to settle down after passing it although I had given her some metacam so that could have just kicked in. Is it possible this was blocking her up?

Does your insurance have an emergency number you can call? Ours does and you can send photos or videos over if needed.

Have you had her on Cystease/Cystaid and D-Mannose for her cystitis?

I’m not sure I’ll dig my insurance policy out, I wasn’t even aware that was a thing so thanks for the tip. Yes we had her on cystease for ages when she first started with it but it didn’t really seem to make any improvement and it was difficult to get her to take it, she immediately knew when it was in her food and would refuse to eat so I was giving her the tablet whole alongside her yumove tablet which was very stressful for us both. I’ll look into the D Mannose thank you I hadn’t heard of that before. She’s been fine since this morning

Hello. I have a health plan for my cat with Vet4Pets and they have a number to ring for general advice. I have pet insurance with Tesco and they also provide a similar service. Hope she gets on okay.

I'm glad she's feeling better!

Our boy is on D-Mannose and Cystease everyday (he just takes the tablets because he's a weirdo who sits there and lets me do that, lol). He's also on a specific urinary food for cystitis - we use Purina but there's loads of brands out there.
