Kitten sometimes breathes too fast. Normal?

I have a 7 month kitten. Every other day or so she can breathe really fast both while resting and while awake (also occasionally pants while we are playing with her) I would say when she does the fast breathing it's two breaths per second and lasts 5 mins or so. Just wondered if this is normal?

My cat does this.. especially when asleep!

It's impossible to say when they're asleep as they often purr etc. at the same time which throws it off.

I've never had a kitten panting during play though, that would worry me though I know some cat experts say it's normal.

I’ve just posted on this topic page about my cat and its quick breathing. Everything else normal but when he didn’t go outside we took him to the vet who rushed him, after a scan, into hospital to drain fluid from around his heart. Turns out he has heart failure. Only thing that was a sign was the fast breathing. Still there atm in an oxygen tent.Apparently it’s common in cats and undetectable until certain signs like panting. Hope your cat is ok.

Mine used to pant when a kitten if she had been rushing around playing. She is 13 now and stopped doing it by the time she was about 1 or 2.

SophieJo I hope your cat gets better soon.

Yes it's just when she has been running round playing

The panting. The fast breathing is on and off when asleep or resting, usually after a day of lots of activity. I've never noticed it in any other cat I've had
