The HAIR

Omg. It's everywhere. They shed like bloody Labradors! It's all over the kitchen worktops, the hob, the kitchen windowsills, every single flat surface possible is covered in cat hair. Every outfit I wear is covered within minutes, whether I go near the cats or not!

We only have two short haired kittens. How the hell do people manage with more? And long coated breeds 🤯 Are you swimming in cat hair or something?!

Yes - I'm afraid we too are knee deep in cat fur.
Two long haired and two short (medium really) haired moggies. Considering the fur they drop I'm amazed they aren't bald...

Mumsgirls · 16/02/2024 12:27

My last old boy was semi and not too bad, new boy is long hair, brush everyday but hair everywhere. He is also big so probably makes it worse.
Have put throws on my sofas, I whip them off when guests come, so they don’t have clothes messed up. Spring moult seems to be starting so may get worse before it’s better

Regular grooming is the answer along with a cat and dog vacuum cleaner and lint rollers.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 16/02/2024 14:19

We have three cats but only one of them seems to shed luckily! You can brush the other two and get absolutely nothing off them.

BlunderMifflin · 16/02/2024 16:30

At a vet appointment last week for something unrelated I mentioned my cat is losing an extraordinary amount of hair at the moment - more than ever before! She just said it's normal but if he starts getting bald patches to bring him back. But I SWEAR he has never moulted this much ever before, it is unbelievable! There are actual 'dust bunnies' moving around that are just cat hair and I've never seen that in our house before.

FayCarew · 16/02/2024 16:31

You have a cat. The hair is part of the package.

BlunderMifflin · 16/02/2024 16:53

A clarifying point for my previous post - I've had my cat over a decade, the hair is not new to me, but this year is so much worse than previous years.

MyBiscuitspread · 19/02/2024 11:09

Apart from my husband not being on board with the idea of getting a cat, the issue of hair it's what making me hesitate to try and convince him.
As a child, I was never allowed a cat and getting one, has been my biggest dream ever since.
Now that I've turned into this strange houseproud woman, I'm not so sure anymore...
How do I know beforehand if my love for the cat will be stronger than the inability to deal with all the hair?
I would never give a cat away because of the hair but at the same time I don't want to be miserable for 15 plus years if I realise I've made a wrong decision.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/02/2024 11:55

Being serious, I do think that it"s difficult to be too houseproud if you have cats. They do shed fur, they do scratch things they shouldn't, and food and litter are never the tidiest of areas.

If you'd find that difficult a cat probably isn't for you I'm afraid.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/02/2024 12:07

You need to brush them regularly

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 19/02/2024 12:09

I think all cat owners have houses that are slightly fucked be it pulls in the furniture or litter being flicked everywhere or dust bunnies of fur.

I’ve got a robot hoover so the floors are ok but the laminate on the stairs has dust bunnies of fur.

heartbrokenof · 19/02/2024 12:15

I hoover twice a day and brush them once a day. Never leave washing about everything goes straight upstairs. I don't let them in the bedrooms. Have blankets on every soft furnishing that I was. It's not too bad
