I know there's no evidence to support what I'm saying but I'm going off something I experienced and wondered if anyone else has a cat that has done this?

I have an 8 month old cat, He is fine around people but won't seek them out, So if someone goes to him to pet him he will let them but would never go to someone himself, He will not and has never sat on my lap or anyone else's.

Three weeks ago my nan came to my house and sat on my sofa, My cat instantly went to her and sat on her lap, He then started sniffing her intently and no matter what I did he wouldn't stop. Nan left and cat went back to his normal self. Nan came back the next day and he did the same thing and wouldn't leave her alone or stop sniffing her all over. He has never been near my nan of his own free will in the entire time I have had him.

Nan has just been diagnosed with stage four terminal cancer.

Did my cat sense it? Am I going insane?

Or does she eat salmon paste sandwiches and drops crumbs on herself sometimes?

I know dogs can be trained to sniff cancer and Parkinson’s though so it’s not impossible, or maybe your Nan is just ‘the chosen one’.
We have a cat, DH has cancer, she still only ever sits on my lap. I feel so blessed when she settles down for a nap.

Yes OP it can happen. Dogs can get trained to detect various diseases but cats can still pick up differences, including early pregnancy. Animals are amazing.

Yep. It's absolutely a "thing". They can often tell when you're pregnant too.

Very similar story
My Cousins cat was very aloof, really didn't like anyone and just appeared for food and a drink out of the dogs bowl and sloped off again
Her friend popped in for coffee and the cat went nuts, jumped up onto her lap, headbutting her chin, meowing really loudly then settled on her lap
She too was diagnosed with Cancer a few days afterwards

I think your cat can sense it and was trying to consol her.
