Insuring two cats, separate insurers?

I have two cats. Both rescues, moggies, 7.5 years old. One has no health conditions whatsoever. The other has repeated issues with her eyes (previous ulcers, often gets infections etc) but no diagnosis.

They have been with Bought by Many, but I've just been told their monthly payments are ti go from £24 to £45 a month.

Who do you insure with? Is it worth looking to move the one with no pre-existing conditions to somewhere cheaper? Two cats with two different companies - madness?

Mine are on the same policy. My two late cats had loads of issues. My two current ones are on the same policy, they get a multi pet discount. I looked at insuring Penelope on a new policy, but it would have cost more. And they have different excess amounts to pay.

There's usually a multipet discount with the same insurer.

Also if they are on an old policy where you do t have to pay a percentage of the bill. Stay on it. You will have to pay on a new policy, once they reach 8.

We're with Tesco and have three cats on one policy.

Is this a common thing now then? I just have to pay an excess.

£45 a month for two healthy moggies just seems a lot!

Yes. Apparently it is, I was a bit surprised when I insured Penelope, to be told this. As Cheddar doesn't have it in her policy, and neither did the late Magic.

I don't think £45 per month is excessive for two cats who are coming up to their senior years, especially if you've claimed for eye issues for one of them.

You may only pay an excess now but the vast majority of policies will charge you extra once your cats reach the age of eight. I'd double check your small print so you're prepared!

We have 3 cats with Petplan. Two on one policy, but each with different terms as one of them had some eye problems. We then got a new moggy and he is with same insurer but on different policy, but it all comes up together when we look them up on the online portal. Our vet recommended this insurance as the benefits are really good. We pay 38.59 for the 2 older cats (6ish and 4ish) for £7000 of cover, and £15.28 for the newer moggy for £4000 of cover. We think its worth every penny as our oldest kitty broke her leg jumping off a cat tree when she was 6 months old and not insured and it cost us over 1500 to fix it.

I have 3 with Petplan. I don't think £45 for two middle aged cats, one with recurring eye problems is unreasonable. £24 was a bargain.

Alright, thanks all. Good to put it in perspective.

I'm paying £27 for two with Petplan, one is 3 the other 7. Just put the new one on, think he has his own policy (should have asked about multipet discount?) and his is £17 just for him. He's less than 2.
