The time has nearly come...

My cat has been back and forward to the vets for about 6 months and been getting steroid injections/ medicine.

She gotten really bad- struggling to breathe, hasn't eaten much since the weekend and looks a bit unkempt. The vet gave her an injection and medicine and said there isn't anything we can do. Her gums were blue :(

I'm just heartbroken :( I didn't have the courage to ask about the process (have had 2 cats PTS at home)- is this offered by chains such as vets for pets rather than having to bring her down (and leave without her)🥲? Grateful for any experiences of this.

My vet has posters up for two chefs that offer an at home service. Though I preferred to take mine to the vet.

Vets. So it work asking your vet if they know of anyone who does it.

If you are in the Midlands Dignipets vets will come to your home, you can find them online

(so sorry that you are facing this, it is so hard, sending you a very unMumsnetty hug)

You don’t just leave your cat with the vets.
My cat was pts in my arms and I walked out with her after and buried her in my garden.

Very sorry, you must be heartbroken. I think it'd be kinder to find a vet who'll come to your home, so much less stressful for the poor puss.

When my adult son took his 18 1/2 year old ill cat to vets they PTS whilst my son cuddled him and he brought him home to bury in the garden in his favourite sunny spot along my border.

Sorry I am just catching up with these!

We took the cat as she wasn't picking up after an injection and they said she was not in a good way so we made the decision. She was put to sleep and we went ahead in the vets and stayed with her the whole time ❤️

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies.

Because she went in, in the afternoon when they then said she had a lot going on with her lungs, we didn't want to bring her home and have to bring her back again so a few family members came to the vets and we got a little shaving of her fur (she was a calico so had lovely different colours).
