Rescued two kittens at the weekend, a bonded pair. I was home checked and my son met the fosterers etc. but since coming home one has warmed up and is now eating and playing and wanting strokes and even had purrs from them. The other hasn't eaten and is still hiding isn't interested in any food etc I haven't seen it since it came out the carrier it has just stayed in the hiding spot I made for it. How long will it hide for? Is there anything I can do to help so far just left them totally alone put food down given them lots of alone time in the room we have put them in

Could take days, remember that even when brought up together cats can have very different personalities so one can be much more outgoing & another shyer.

Keep doing what you're doing, except spend plenty of time quietly in the room so they get used to you. Read, watch TV, chat quietly to each other or even to the cats so they get used to you and your voices.

It's only been a few days - it can take weeks.

It took a couple of months for our rescue cat to settle in and stop hiding. Now he rules the roost! I'd just give it time. Give him space and don't approach him. He'll come round. I used to read gently to my cat while he was hiding so he got used to my voice. I think it helped.

It's normal in my experience.
They have been taken away from all that is familiar, into a strange new environment, with new smells etc.
The kitten is probably just scared, plus different personalities.
It took weeks for my rescue cat to come out from hiding under the dining table.
I just sat with him, played music and talked rubbish to him.
Good luck.be patient 😸

It's very very early days, quite remarkable that one is already friendly!

Sounds like my brother/sister kittens....the male is a dopey love-ball, the female much more suspicious and intelligent. I called her the Velociraptor when she first arrived as she immediately began testing their safe room for structural weaknesses and a way out.

She did turn out to be incredibly sweet and loving, it just took her a lot longer.
