Hi everyone,

I posted a while ago in the summer about my lovely older male cat who had a bout of pancreatitis. Sadly since then he's never really been back to normal and it has become very difficult to manage and to see him struggling.

I had to take him back to the vets a few weeks ago as he had been vomiting quite frequently and after more blood tests etc, he's been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis though this isn't the full picture as now for the first time his kidney tests are also off though the vet didn't seem too concerned about that.

He used to be such an outdoorsy, active cat and he has now become a house cat and spends most of his days in our under stairs cupboard just coming out occasionally to use the litter tray and for food. He always seems depressed and restless though we have had some brighter days where he's sat with us on the sofa purring.

The vet has suggested doing an endoscopy and biopsies to check for IBD and yet another blood test related to the kidneys but I'm unsure whether to go ahead as I'm wondering what the long term outcome will be. It's a general anaesthetic to put him through not to mention the actual costs (although I would pay whatever it took to make him well). I'm just not sure if there's going to be a good outcome.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar or have any advice because nothing really seems to be helping and it's becoming quite an upsetting situation. For reference my boy is 14.5 and the vet has not even mentioned the possibility of letting him go.

Thanks

You made the right decision. His suffering is over. I can’t imagine how hard it was… I know one day I will need to make this decision for mine.. but that’s what we agree to do when taking on another family member xx

Hi op,

I'm so sorry today was the day. I think you had very good intuition on his behalf and that's what he deserved.

Be gentle to yourself. Xx

Oh OP, I am so sorry. This is the hardest thing we have to do for them, but perhaps also the kindest. At least it was clear in the end what was best for your beautiful boy after all that uncertainty and suspense that you had to go through. You have saved him from so much pain and suffering. ❤️
