Would you rescue a disabled cat?

We're going to view some kittens from rspca today. They are pushing us towards a cat with a neurological disorder which means she is a bit wobbly on her feet. I have looked up the disorder which doesn't look like it would cost in vet fees and isn't life limiting. The only thing putting me off is we already have a cat. He's just turned 1 and is very active, charges around, up and down the stairs. Id be worried he knocks her over and causes damage. The lady at the rspca said she's in with other kittens and would be fine but obviously our boy weights a lot more than the kittens.

Your prospective kitten has cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a disorder that can develop when the mother has feline influenza during pregnancy. I have a cat like this. I can honestly say that he is fine. Yes, he's wobbly. Yes, he's clumsy. He has a small head and is generally smaller than my other five.

But he is perfectly capable of play fighting with my other cats. He can play, hunt and leap with the best of them, he just does it a bit stupidly. My biggest cat wrestles with him on the reg and lets him win every now and then. It's all about getting the introductions right so that they bond. My wobbly boy has the loveliest, cuddliest temperament too. Don't discount this kitten.

I would have a CH cat without question, even with my current rowdy cat. Especially from the RSPCA - probably the only cat I'd ever be allowed to get from them, since I wouldn't let a cat free roam outside. Glad you got a pet to suit you and hope the little CH girl gets someone soon :)

The lady that is Fostering her keeps the cats that don't go to another home so she will have a lovely home either way

Aww, very cute.

I wouldn't take a disabled cat either unless they were going to be the only cat in the home. I've watched too many episodes of Jackson Galaxy where other cats attack the disabled one and they fight horrendously :(
