Funding for cats dental work?

My cat is nearly 7. He has started to get gingivitis and needs a tooth extracted. The vet has quoted me £900 today. I only have £300 in savings and currently on disability.

Does anyone know of a charity who may be able to help me? I've contacted cats protection and RSPCA, neither can help. I live in Peterborough, too far away from PDSA/blue cross to help.

Please don't judge me, I may be poor but I love my cat more than anything. He is insured but this doesn't cover dental work. I do not have family I can ask, I'm pretty much alone.

I'm from your area. Definitely shop around. My cat needed teeth out and was a similar cost to what you were quoted. Friend's cat had a similar operation which was much cheaper. The vet practices were about 2 miles apart.

I only know about RSPCA and Cats Protection round here so can't help on that front.

Good luck.

Have you tried vets 4 pets? They have fair and transparent prices in my experience.

I'd also shop around for your insurance, mine does cover teeth extractions just not cleaning

That’s such a shame, I really hoped there would be one nearby that could help.

Shop around and possibly see about paying in instalments?

Think you need to find better insurance. My cat had dental work that was covered. Maybe look at AnimalAid or DirectLine.

That won't help now. Dental work/teeth problems will be classed as a pre existing condition and won't be covered by a new insurance policy.

OP, definitely shop around. My vet offers a payment plan so it might be worth asking about. Good luck

Thank you for these suggestions. The independent vet in my area is at capacity so looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

The vet school only do referrals from the RSPCA.

The RSPCA haven't responded to my email.

I'm going to save up for a few months, vet said the cat is likely to be ok and to contact them if he shows any signs of pain.
