Cat not eating after spaying?

My cat was spayed yesterday afternoon. She ate at the vets before coming home, and ate a tiny bit last night. Has spent the whole day hiding away and hasn't eaten anything. She's had a little water from my hand. She seems alert and the wound looks okay, she just doesn't have an appetite and doesn't want to move. I've pinched the back of her neck and the skin goes back normally so she doesn't seem to be dehydrated. Googling suggests loss of appetite is normal, but I'm just wondering if this sounds worrying? She's back at the vets tomorrow for a check up.

Totally normal ime but hopefully the vet will reassure you tomorrow.

Thank you, that's really reassuring

Dcat was the same, although she didn’t eat at the vets, apparently just licked a bit of gravy. She was only just back to her normal appetite at her 10 day check where they discovered she had developed a hernia at the wound site and needed more surgery the following day and another 10 days of poor eating. Fortunately she’s back to her normal self. I’m dreading getting dkitten spayed. I hope your dcat feels better soon.

Hope cat is better tomorrow, surely normal to lose appetite after an operation. And hiding is totally normal for cats after a bad experience.

Thanks everyone. She still wasn't eating today and refusing her pain medication - vet gave her an injection for pain relief and she's finally eaten a bit of tuna. Hopefully past the worst of it now.

Fingers crossed for you

Hope she's feeling better op. It makes me laugh when the vets tell me to give them chicken post op. My two won't touch it!

She's eating okay now - still not back to her normal appetite but small amounts regularly. Still hiding away but I can't blame her for that.

Thanks for all the reassurance! She's my first female cat - my boy cat bounced back much quicker when he was neutered (though I know it's a bigger op for girls).

Lovely news, thanks for updating :) She'll come out of hiding within a couple of weeks, you just have to be very calm and gentle and patient with her. I have a very sensitive rescue cat and there have been a couple of episodes like this where he went into hiding after a fright, but they do recover in the end.
