Re-doing a scratching post

Oh wise people in my phone... what do I need to purchase to re 'wrap' chunky string around a cat scratching post.
I googled hessian string but that doesn't look thick enough.
At age 13 my cat has started going for the landing wall!!

Out of interest I googled cat scratching rope. Apparently amazon has it listed under that 😂 No idea about difference of hemp, jute or sisal but I always knew it as sisal for scratchers. Also saw a YouTube how to as well.

Much easier - get a piece of carpet offcut and tack it to the post.

I agree with @SisyphusDad , I 'built' or covered two bits of wood with old carpet and nailed them together , so his scratching post is a tall enough one with a wide steady base.

He never showed the slightest interest in the shop bought ones but he loves that one
