Do you put opened cat food pouch in fridge?

Just got a kitten and I am
A bit confused about the storage of the pouch cat food. If my kitten has half a pouch in the morning, do I put the pouch (sealed with clip) in fridge then at lunch bring out of fridge for lunch? Won't it be too cold?

I don't put it in the fridge, maybe I should, I leave it on top of the microwave where the cat with a damaged dodgy leg can't get it...or so I thought 🤣

I usually put it in the fridge, I guess at this time of year it’s probably not necessary for a few hours.
Never had any complaints about it being too cold, they’ve still eaten it.

JoanOgden · 03/01/2024 18:00

Yes, I do. Generally with a dash of water (as she refuses to drink neat water) which takes the chill off.

CCLCECSC · 03/01/2024 22:15

Yes in the fridge. No complaints to date.

Salesarefullofcutpricesprouts · 03/01/2024 22:16

What is this concept? The uneaten pouch?

JadziaD · 03/01/2024 22:20

Yes, in the fridge. I was a little surprised the other morning however to com downstairs and find that DH had put the pouch in a cup of boiling water to "take the chill off". Grin

murasaki · 03/01/2024 22:29

I did yesterday and she spurned it, presumably as being too cold.

Renamed · 03/01/2024 22:33

Yes in a plastic takeaway box overnight, sometimes she eats it all straight away, sometimes leaves it for a bit. But she does that if it’s one I’ve just opened anyway.

SkankingWombat · 03/01/2024 22:37

We did initially, but DKitten wouldn't eat chilled meaty chunks so we had to leave it out (folded over with a peg). This was over the summer, and nothing bad happened. He has food in tins now, and that also has to be left out (with a silicone cover stretched over it) or it goes uneaten.
It was a new problem, as DCat came to us as an older kitten, already able to pack in a whole pouch in one sitting. There are no issues about whether to chill or leave out her food as she refuses to eat the better-quality-but-tinned food at any temperature, so still gets the pouches 😏

Yes, in the fridge in a screw top beaker so it doesn't smell. If we remember in time, one of us takes it out half an hour or so in advance so it warms up a bit as our car doesn't like it too cold.

iknowimcoming · 03/01/2024 22:40

Yes, my picky little madam won't eat a whole sachet in one go, and doesn't like it all if it's sat out in the bowl for a while, so she has four feeds of half a sachet per day (ish), sometimes half a sachet will sit in the fridge overnight, but anyway she doesn't seem to mind it cold!

menopausalmare · 03/01/2024 22:43

Yes, we do, although the cats don't like cold meat. We do have problems with flies laying eggs on their meat in the summer so we feed them little and often so the bowls are empty.

KnittedCardi · 03/01/2024 22:48

No. Just leave it on the side for the next installment. It's not that Arthur can't eat a whole packet, but he likes to graze all day. He also likes to alternate with IAM's, even mid meal, he swaps bowls, and swaps back. So, we have a pretty continuous slave like duty to feed him when he declares. If we are not quick enough, he bites us!

MyAnacondaMight · 03/01/2024 22:48

Not if it’s just for a few hours - mine also has half a pouch 4x day - but yes if overnight in summer. I will also warm it in a cup of boiling water.

margotrose · 03/01/2024 23:26

No, mine won't eat food from the fridge.

caringcarer · 03/01/2024 23:50

I use tins of cat meat and I put lid on and put in fridge. My big male cat eats 2 pouches at once. My little female one pouch. They have 3/4 of a tin between them morning and the same again at night with 1 pouch for lunch to keep them going.

Femme2804 · 03/01/2024 23:55

Yes in the fridge and my kitten wont eat cold so i microwave it for 15seconds just to make room temprature.

JaceLancs · 04/01/2024 21:13

We are on half a pouch 4 times a day for 5 month old kitten
He eats it happily straight from fridge
I just put a bag clip on it and prop upright in door shelf o

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/01/2024 23:25

No - we put it on the side. She won’t eat it from the fridge and we were crap at remembering to take it out in advance!

Jayinthetub · 05/01/2024 00:35

We put half packs in the fridge and I think my boy actually prefers them chilled, as long as I only ever feed him his favourite Whiskas and don't try and do anything as terrible as trying to feed him premium food... Like @menopausalmare I've seen flies eggs on wet food left out so tend to feed on demand really now I'm thinking about it Blush Who am I kidding, I just do what I'm told Grin
