You can buy advantage for the day online, indorex for the house. Cat can’t be in a room you’ve just indorex.

The prescription flea treatment is much more effective. You have to get it from a vet.

Go to the vet and get it prescribed, fleas this year seem resistant to most over the counter products.

I have two black cats, one is a huge fluffy lump and the other is a rescue and has terrible flea allergy and has over groomed her entire back half and looks awful. She's treated and medicated but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Other tips on finding an outbreak of fleas

  • hoover carpet's everywhere everyday for a week+ ( lifts fleas and any eggs )
  • wash any blankets/ clothes cats have been sleeping on regularly . Flees tend to leave small black comma shaped bits so look closely for signs.
  • daily top to bottom flee comb, use a bowl of hot soapy water to drown the fleas, may need reading glasses to spot! Do everyday for about 10 days. Once had a massive outbreak in one of my cats- day one 10 fleas, then reducing numbers each day. Some always get away hence why daily. Also need to comb tail, under chin and belly.
  • once under control , regulary flee comb cats- I always do a weekly check as routine now.
  • not all cats like being combed- have to wait until ours decide they want a fuss lazing in the sofa
We fostered a cat once who had a skin allergy to flees so was given monthly vet prescribed flee skin drops. They are more expensive but were more effective at the time. The fur grew back once controlled- would start to flea comb on finding a scab as this was the first sign of any flees on him. My older dad’s last cats had developed a big flee problem and he couldn’t really manage the cleaning / combing - he opted for some sort of injection from the vets which he reported was very effective. Don’t know what it was called.
