Poorly cat

Last week we rushed our cat to the vets as she had been sick and crying very loudly. They couldn't find a reason for this she's an elderly cat. We don't know her age we think around 14.
She came home after staying in the vets but is slowly declining. She is drinking lots of water but hasn't eaten properly since last Wednesday. She's refusing food. We are very worried about her. We thought she wasn't going to make it last night. We will be contacting the vets tomorrow with the view on putting her to sleep. We are all devastated we spent most of last night crying. My eldest daughter is 17 and is very attached to the cat. She has important exams in a few weeks time so need her to start focusing on them.
The cat is having lots of cuddles today and is purring loudly but clearly isn't well. I'm dreading tonight and tomorrow but we don't want her to suffer. 🥲

Please do it sooner than later, my poor boy suffered through vets inability to diagnose and I feel so bad. Wish he could have been pts rather than tormented, similar age to yours. Hand hold it is awful to go through

I'm very sorry to hear about this.
It's always kinder to the animal to pts earlier rather than later.

I know it feels very sad. Companion animals are family.

If she's really not well I would be taking her to the vets tonight. I'm so sorry, it's shit.

Get a second opinion from a different vet, 14 isn’t particularly elderly for a cat.

To be honest, I think I would too. Particularly if she's clearly unwell. I also found the waiting, over the decision was made. The absolute worst thing, I just wanted it over with. It was very sad. But very peaceful and dignified for her.

It's pretty average, really. 12-18 is the average so 14 is pretty much bang-on, sadly.

This. Both of my elderly cats have acted in the manner you describe - one had stolen a bad of cheese scones and eaten the plastic bag which she couldn't pass, the other turned out to have thyroid disease. Lived to 17 and 16 respectively. Good luck.

Update we took cat to the vets today sadly she had tumors in her tummy and there was nothing they could do so we made the decision to put her to sleep. Just glad we had time over Christmas to look after her. She seemed to know it was her time. We had lots of cuddles and she purred right to the end.
