Wand toys with 2 cats

I’m fostering a pair of kitten sisters at the moment - first time I’ve had 2 at once. Up to now when playing with wand toys I’ve had one in each hand, but we’ve been given a Da Bird https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/go-cat-feather-toys-da-bird-teaser-cat-toy & I’m just not sure how best to let them both play with it together - especially since one of them’s better at catching it than the other! Any thoughts?

We have three cats and they'll all play with the same toy at the same time. I just waft it around for them to chase and try and give them all an equal chance to have a go, as it were.

But actually they do like playing tug with them and doing all sorts of silly things so mostly I let them get on with it, lol.

Thanks @margotrose. I think that’s the way to go.

Our da birdie lasted 60 seconds one the youngest caught it 🙄 took it back and got a refund!

It's one of the advantages of having multiples @EmpressaurusOfCats - they mostly entertain themselves! My 8yo and 7 month old are currently bapping each other while hiding in separate cardboard boxes Grin

I have to have seperate play times with mine. Cat Two refuses to play if another cat is there.

They're odd aren't they? One of mine will only play if another cat is playing too - if you try and get him to play alone he just gives you a funny look and walks off Grin

Firstly, they are gorgeous! When I've had kittens together I've usually played with both of them at the one time, but there's usually one who's more into it than another... and last time round one who only joined in when she saw the other getting attention ( she hasn't changed in that respect as she grew up!).

Last time I added a kitten into the mix with two older cats and it had a rejuvenating effect on them both and often we had a play session with all three...

Just a word of caution. When our two were small they loved it. However, during play, it got wrapped around one of their tails. That frightened them so they ran and of course it came with them. They were terrified. All was well in the end but maybe supervised play only?

EmpressaurusOfCats · 26/12/2023 09:55

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful.

Definitely supervised play only & yes, while they love the thing it’s so bloody fragile that I could end up buying replacement feathers every week!

They’re very good at playing together - for now - but I think the da bird might go away for now & I’ll stick with a toy in each hand so they both get a prey to triumph over.

When you have more than one cat, ping pong balls are the way to go. And cardboard boxes with holes cut in them.

I use superglue to stick the feathers back into the Da Bird toys after they come out the first time. Extends the life of the toy for several months.
