Can’t get buster collar on cat

Hi all. Just took my female cat home after being neutered, they told me she must wear it when unsupervised. But they didn’t put it on her - just handed it to me and told me to put it on her when home.
We’ve had another falling out trying to get this collar on, she’s not having it, and she’s now jumped to the top of my wardrobe so I can’t reach her.
I don’t know what to do!!

Just leave her for now until she has calmed down. She will probably want to lick her stitches and vet smells off. When she comes down, lots of extra cuddles, can you get a soft collar instead or a babygro on her.

My cat didn't have anything when she was spayed. She did t tolerate a cone, a buster collar was too big and she got her foot stuck. Tried a surgical suit. But the smallest was too big, and she refused to walk in it. She never bothered the wound.

The he risk of her injuring herself was bigger than the risk of her licking it.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of cutting off the arm of an old cardigan and seeing if that would suffice over her body??

A cardi arm with leg holes would be fine and warm if she keeps it on

Try a cardi arm or a surgical suit if you can find one small enough. We had a cone of shame for our cat when she was spayed, and she wouldn't tolerate it at all, continually walked backwards trying to escape it and toileting all over as she was stressed. Was safer for her not to bother.

Neither of our kittens would stay still enough to have them on. I phoned the vets in a panic and they said we would just have to keep a very close eye on their stitches to make absolutely sure they weren't chewing at them (they could open up the wound) and getting them infected.

We kept them with us and kept checking that u it t all looked fine and wasn't inflamed or hot.

They also only needed the painkillers for a couple of days.

My cat had her op on Monday, the vet said they don't tend to give collars out too much now as they distress the cats too much they said I can get a body vest if she pulls her stitches. I didn't need to in the end she left it alone.

My girl was ‘done’ back in August. She didn’t fuss at her stitches at all. We didn’t put her in a collar or suit.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2023 21:45

Both of these lasted about five minutes!

I've had three cats spayed, none of them had any sort of protection and they were all absolutely fine. Leave her to it.

margotrose · 14/12/2023 22:29

She really doesn't need one. None of my cats have ever worn a collar or suit after being spayed/neutered and we've never had any issues.

Clarich007 · 15/12/2023 13:48

I've had 4 girl cats over the years and none of them had a cone or suit.Luckily they used to just gently lick the wound then left it alone after a couple of days..
