Questions about Feliway & Zylkene

Hello

I have an elderly cat who has just started on medicine for hyperthyroidism.

She currently sleeps a lot of the day but does have her manic times.

She's my only cat and I live alone. She barely goes out these days if at all.

Would she benefit from a feliway plug in and/or zylkene? She gets gabapentin if she actually goes to the vets. And things like fireworks don't bother her. I just want her to be happy, comfortable in day to day life now she she's getting on.

If Feliway, should it be the Classie one or the Optimum one?

Thanks

Is she very anxious? I was told that Zyklene is the cat equivalent of a mug of Horlicks. I've used them both . And have no idea if they help or not!

What makes you think she'd benefit? Is she anxious generally?

BrainInAJar · 05/12/2023 16:52

Thanks both.

No, she's not anxious I don't think. Just a little unwell I guess with her hyperthyroidism which we're trying to get under control. I'm home 24/7 so she has company whenever she wants it.

I guess it's just because I wonder if I'm missing a trick not giving her these things if they would improve her wellbeing generally.

I would recommend getting some valerian pillows, and silvervine sticks. She will thank you for it!

So, so much better than catnip.

I wouldn't personally bother with feliway and zylkene, I'd spend my money on the very nicest food she likes and maybe an upgraded heated cat bed 😻

Thank you! <heads to Amazon>

I wouldn't use Feliway these days. It has changed and rendered 2 of my cats incabable, bot at different times. It just knocked them out.

If you decide to try something of that type, Pet Remedy is better but even then I would limit the time it is in use to an hour once or twice a day and not at all if anyone has allergies, including your cat.

It is likely that you don't need anything unless your cat is nervy.
