Weird jelly/liquid red stuff

My 12 year old cat has been producing this weird stuff. She's been a bit weird recently pooing in the bath so I upped the litter trays and all was well until the other day I found some weird red jelly stuff in the bath. It looked a bit like jam or the kids toothpaste so I sniffed it and it wasn't nice at all, kind of meaty. No poo in the trays or the bath, just the red stuff.

Today I've come home to more stuff in the bath but also in the litter tray as well as a poo. I'm not sure if she started in the bath or the tray but it struck me as odd that she was in 2 places.

Initially due to the lack of anything else I thought she might have thrown it up but now I wonder if it's coming out of her bum hence the poo??

She seems fine in herself, a bit grumpier with the other cat if he gets too close to her and being a bit fussy with food but that's nothing new.

I think a vet trip is in order ASAP because I'm sure it's not normal. We've had her since she was a kitten as well as other cats and this is the first time I've seen anything like this. It almost reminds me a bit of a mucus plug (never had one personally but I've seen pictures) Anyone have any idea what it might be??

Bizarrely this has also happened to
Me today! I’ve found a few smears of bloody liquid and a few spots of blood round the house and the only living thing they could have come from is the cat - but cat seems absolutely fine, eating, drinking, just totally normal. There’s no blood in its pee - I can’t work out where it’s coming from so I hope someone can answer your question!

Tink you're right to go to the vet. Maybe ring them and ask.

That's what Cheddar had when I swapped her food. It gave her colitis. Easily cured by swapping back. And some kaolin paste.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/12/2023 16:53

Definitely see the vet..

Haven't changed her food either so it's not that.

Is your cat spayed? If not, could she be in heat and this is like her period? Obviously do ring the vet

goodnessidontknow · 01/12/2023 17:22

We had the same with our cat last year and it turned out to be a UTI.

RumbleMum · 01/12/2023 17:24

We had this when my cat had cystitis. The vet fairly swiftly is a good plan.

GHSP · 01/12/2023 17:39

This is what a uti looks like in a cat. Your dcat is also likely to be weeing in places other than the litter tray, so watch out for more spots like this around the house

Whatever it could be a vet's appointment will of course be the best thing to do ASAP. Hope she's OK, bless her xx

MaMisled · 01/12/2023 17:43

In my experience of cats, that would point to a UTI and a timely visit to a vet. Hope they'll be better soon.

Pickingmyselfup · 01/12/2023 17:47

I don't think it's a UTI, she's had them in the past and I know her behaviour. She's not doing anything that makes me think it's that and there has been no drops of wee at all which there normally will be.

I made an appointment for Monday, it's all very strange.

She's almost 13 now and this has never happened before. She's been spayed for years so it's not open pyometra.
