We're moving house soon, and struggling to figure out which room to put the litter tray in.

Which room do you have it in and why?

I have 2 kittens & 3 litter trays. Mine are in the following locations..
trays 1&2 are in my hallway, in the corner underneath the shelving that holds my internet box. But once a week tray 2 is relocated to my spare room for the night. (When my DD stays over, she insists on having ‘her’ kitten in with her overnight.)
Tray 3 lives in the en-suite attached to my room, as due to disability it’s shower is unusable to me, and thus the room doesn’t get damp, unlike the main bathroom.

One tucked in a corner in the living room next to a large chest by the french doors - never use them as the cats could get out, but do have them netted so I can have them open in the summer. Used to have one in some "dead" space between the short side of the L-shaped sofa and the cat tree, but that was never used in 7-8 years. Started out in there as that was the room they were in when they first came home, & never changed.

One between the spare bed and the wall. That was the room Tobias was in when he came home in the spring and both cats have now decided it's THEIR room. Good thing I don't get guests coming to stay!

I have a long straight hall so I have 2 trays, one at each end.

Sitting room

AnnaMagnani · 20/11/2023 09:13

2 in a hallway and 1 in a spare bedroom.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2023 09:15

I have a large covered tray in the kitchen. Nowhere else to put it.

Kyogo67 · 20/11/2023 09:19

Utility room next to back door

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/11/2023 09:22

Harry's litter tray was in the bathroom. Many a time I was sitting on the loo and he was sitting in his tray!

kokotheguerilla · 20/11/2023 09:32

We have a downstairs bathroom we don’t use (off the kitchen, a bit grim) so we put a cat flap in the door and it’s now a cat litter and utility room.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/11/2023 10:06

Not an indoor cat owner - but we do have a litter tray that is heavily used (the little furry buggers come back inside to use it 😹)
Ours is in the utility room - the only place it could sensibly go in our house.

eurochick · 20/11/2023 10:43

We have one in the downstairs cloakroom and one in an upstairs bathroom.

Beachwaves127 · 20/11/2023 21:53

Living room but we are moving it to the utility asap (just need to do some rejigging). Part of me likes it in the living room so that I have a vague idea of her movements as I see her using the litter tray (not sure why I need to know to be fair but still).

Qqbank01 · 20/11/2023 23:05

I have 1 indoor cat and she have 2 trays, 1 in downstairs toilet and the other one on upstairs bathroom

Ihatemondays1962 · 20/11/2023 23:09

In the downstairs toilet but in other houses it's been in the utility room or in the bathroom.

Wotchaz · 20/11/2023 23:13

1 cat, 3 trays (because he’s a fussy sod): upstairs bathroom, downstairs utility, downstairs hidden corner of dining room. Occasionally I think he’s left one alone for a while so might be able to get rid of it…only for him to then exclusively use that box for the next 3 weeks.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/11/2023 23:17

2 kittens 3 trays, first is in the utility, second in the porch ( opposite ends of the house ) third in my DDs bedroom as they occasionally stay in there with her.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/11/2023 23:20

Always the bathroom as that seems the most sensible place. Easy to sweep and scrub floor, air freshener handy, and it's where everyone else does their business, why not the cat.

Bbq1 · 20/11/2023 23:49

Kitchen buy tucked away well away from all food prep etc plus our dcat is very clean.

Astridastro · 21/11/2023 00:04

3 in the walk in cupboard in the kitchen, it’s a large cupboard away from everything else and is called the cat litter cupboard. One in the upstairs bathroom for the fussy little sod who sometimes refuses to go downstairs

sunshinesupermum · 21/11/2023 00:05

Bathroom

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 21/11/2023 00:42

One in each bathroom.

  1. they are huge litter boxes. space!
  2. bathroom windows are always on vent - so any poo smells do not linger.
  3. floors easy to sweep up stray litter and with litter catch mats it doesn’t track to other bits of the house.
  4. near to main bin for poo bag disposal and out the house to main bin.
  5. spare room in bathroom to hide spare litter and bags. I don’t like it out to be seen.
