Cat trackers

Does anyone use a tracking device on their cat. My cat has been going missing for days at a time over the last few months, so I have bought several different tracking devices to try and find out where she’s going. Tractive gps was too big for her, she’s only small. Tabcat was great if she was sat in the garden, but didn’t seem to pick her up beyond the perimeter of the garden fence.
Lastly I’ve moved on to Girafus, which I had high hopes for, but this doesn’t seem to be much different than the tabcat locator in terms of finding her, as she’s gone awol again.
Does anyone have any experience of using Girafus? Or perhaps a tracking device that works.

I might add that she neutered and chipped. I also don’t think she’s being fed elsewhere, as she feels skinnier when she returns. I think she’s sat in a shed/ outbuilding somewhere as she comes back clean and dry etc. Shes not off hunting somewhere.

Have you been able to see regular haunts when you have tracked her?

My boy is currently being an indoor cat and we have been stunned at how much he eats when other supplies are cut off.

We thought he just had the odd snack occasionally but clearly he was stopping off for second third and fourth breakfasts.

I use tractive, the newer model is smaller than the original.

I used Vodafone curve little GPS trackers, in small pouches attached to the collars. Not needed anymore but for the first while of letting them out! You set it to how often you want updates, set a safe zone (alerts you if outside of this zone) and you can even do continuous tracking for 15 minutes. Normally I'd do 30m updates and I'd charge them once or so a week. Worked really well!

We use tabcat which I agree doesn't help if they go out of range.

Do you live in a built up area? If so how about an apple tag? Small and will work if it can ping off nearby apple devices. It's what we'd use but we're rural.

It’s semi rural, so there’s a lot of farmland around me too.
I believe the Apple tag ones need to be close to a phone to give off a location.

+1 for tractive.
Works well enough to get you within about 30 feet of the correct spot. After that it's down to you.
We back on to fields, and it's not unusual for one of ours to go wandering in the wilderness.

Thanks I’ll have a look at this one.

Tractive was huge on her, she weighs just under 3kg. I wouldn’t expect her to keep it on her tbh.

Ah, yeah they are rather chunky!
Ours is pushing 9 kilo, which has somewhat skewed my perception of the size of the tracker!

I don’t think anyone is feeding her. She feels much lighter and skinnier when she returns. She’s also spotless, which considering the non stop rain we’ve had would lead me to think she’s not tramping across fields hunting.
It’s very odd.

I'd love a tracker. My wanderer is often away for a week or so-I am so curious to know where she goes!
