Are you sure it's not worms?

LessOfMe99 · 09/11/2023 21:44

Worms

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/11/2023 21:44

Um, maybe tell your vet in real life??? There is no way that should be able to happen due to stomach acid, digestive enzymes etc.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/11/2023 21:49

Has just happened in last half hour. Will be calling the vet tomorrow morning.

So so so so gross.

Shes gone back outside in a huff that I wouldn’t let her eat it.

It's likely to be a bad case of having worms, but you're right to take her to the vet.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/11/2023 21:52

Aaargh! I didn’t think your situation could get more disgusting but you’ve proved me wrong…

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/11/2023 21:54

Looked up some choice words on google and it looks like they were probably mealworms - from bird food perhaps.

Definitely vet tomorrow anyway.

who would own pets eh…

As horrendous as this is to clean up, I had to laugh...I fully understand the grossness. Cats are glorious but also total gits!

Our (now deceased) cat once dragged a dead, maggot-ridden half/headless seagull through the cat flap. I think it was a 'present'.

Hope you manage to find enough kitchen roll in the universe to clean up the mess and it would be worth checking in with the vet to see if there's anything you need to do.

Missingmyusername · 09/11/2023 21:55

@gimmeacomfychair you sound most ungrateful🤣

There’s not enough bleach in the world.

To bleach my eyes of the sight, that is.

I’m still so upset.

If it is worms…do I need to deworm myself and my family? I have a toddler and baby.

oh god oh god oh god it’s so gross

Did you take a photo to show the vet?

They will know what it is if you have.

I did not. I really should have. But I was too busy being hysterical.

I’ve just answered your thread too! Jinx!

Thanks. I’ll show this to my cat and threaten her with a swap.

@AngryBirdsNoMore jinx indeed! lol looks like we were responding to each others threads at the same time.

I have to advise against you showing this video to your cat... she will not take it kindly, they are very jealous and she might take aggressive action....

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/11/2023 22:54

Whether they are maggots or worms, if there are lots, she has almost certainly eaten them recently, as opposed to them being an infection. Cats can have worms in their stomachs, but typically you only see 1 or 2 a time in vomit and they're very small. I am a human doctor, not a vet, but I accidentally acquired this knowledge as I once had a patient with a weird worm infection and his cat was prime suspect 🫣

And, yes, you do seem strangely ungrateful for her generosity, puny human.

Defiantlynot41 · 09/11/2023 23:00

I had to stop leaving mealworms out for the robins because my cat would eat them.

Could well be that if you/neighbours are kind bird lovers?

plugin12 · 09/11/2023 23:24

My kitten threw up lots of worms and yes they were worms not maggots , he hadn't ever been out and they were alive and wiggling it was pretty grimEnvy got a same day appointment and he had worming treatment done immediately via injection there and then and worming treatment to be given at home 4 weeks later. I was worried about the worms infecting us as well (roundworms) so I called the doctors that day but they said they wouldn't treat unless we had any symptoms of worms Confused which we didn't.
