My first cat, he's always hungry!!

Always had dogs.

Got an 11 month old ginger Tom. He's DDs. She usually feeds him before school. This morning she got up late so I fed him. But turns out she had already been downstairs and done the same.

So by 8am he'd had double breakfast and some treats, 4 dreamies.

He's now, at 11am, following me round the house, crying like he's not eaten for a week. Running into the kitchen and jumping into his feeding table.

Is this normal??

This is the Cat Law. Cats have never been fed, ever, in the history of cats. YABVVVU in not feeding him constantly.

DenbyDog · 06/11/2023 17:23

He has lily's kitchen, wet, the recommended amount for his age and he has scrumbles dry kitten food available all day but he wants wet all the time and pretty much ignores the dry food.

Pissing myself at the poster saying please feed him like he's skin and bones. He's a fat little shite 😂 Definitely over weight.

I should be feeding him less really to lose weight.

He was at vets 4 weeks ago and got clean bill of health.
Vet did say to watch his food intake as he 'has the potential to develop a weight problem'

He was very diplomatic 😂

Ahem - where's the Cat Tax? You can't tempt us with a ginger kitten and not post a picture of him - that's the law!

amylou8 · 06/11/2023 17:36

This is normal cat behaviour. Put a bowl of dry food out, and tell him he's had breakfast and if he's hungry he'll eat the biscuits. Walk away guilt free while he screams in protest.

The man himself.

Yeah he doesn't touch the dry food but cries for a tin, so I know he's not actually hungry because he would eat the dry. He does like the dry food as he's eaten it happily when no wet left previously.

Or feed him the wet food that he likes because why wouldn't you?

I have two boys, one is 6 and weighs 4.5kg, the other is 5 and weighs 3.3kg - guess who eats the most? I've no idea where he puts it, he stays small, but every time I move he jumps up and goes to the kitchen pretending he hasn't eaten for days. His big brother isn't nearly so bothered. They do have dry biscuits down all the time, but small cat is only really interested in meat. Unless he thinks I'm not looking....

Toddlerteaplease · 06/11/2023 17:47

He's playing you like a violin. As cats do!

I think she means after he's had his wet food. If he's hungry he can eat the dry until next wet food due.

This is what I do.

My girl is known as 'Lunchtime Luna'
Visits 2 houses like clockwork for her 2 extra portions
I've now resorted to posting pouches through my elderly neighbours doors

I'm not sure this is normal loving cat owner behaviour.

Cats need meat. Not ultra processed brown balls.

I find in colder weather mine eat more

FloofCloud · 06/11/2023 21:00

I fed my juvie boys this morning, 1
Pouch each. They have bix complete but ran out today!! When I came home I ran to the loo as desperate - they were both camped outside the door and scattered ... then transfixed on their food
Bowls til I was feeding them - they scoffed the lot then ate the bix as filled up by then 😊 ... they need feeding plenty 😁

DoratheFlora · 06/11/2023 21:12

He's gorgeous!

How much does he weigh? What are you feeding him exactly?

Our boy is 15 and weighs around 4kg. He gets 42kg of Hills Science Plan biscuits in the morning which he grazes on all day. He also gets one packet of Felix or Whiskas 100g (half in the morning and half in the evening) plus 10 Dreamies as a treat.

He's still active and in excellent health.

I would say that the pouches are getting smaller. Whiskas was 100g but seems to have gone to 85g. Our cat loves wet food but they're a bit rubbish. A bit like McDonalds for cats.

margotrose · 07/11/2023 07:23

Is this is first winter? In my experience it is normal for them to eat more at this time of year.

I'd also say if he's not eating the dry food at all then you do need to increase his wet food to compensate for that.
