New cat arriving this week - which room is best

Hello,

Some advice needed -a bit overwhelmed by what’s online! I am adopting a rescue cat this week, he was rescued from the streets and has been with a foster carer for six months, and acclimatised well.

I’ve not had a cat myself before (Though lots of experience of them growing up and through family) and been reading up everything I can. Advice seems to be to give the cat access to one room to begin with - with food, litter tray and everything he needs. I was going to do this in my nice big peaceful living room. But then I worry about what happens when I want to move things - ie I won’t want the litter tray in there forever. Would I be better just starting him in the utility room (which feels less comfy to be but he would have a lovely comfy igloo of course)

Any advice welcome!

Utility room would be my advice that way if theres any accidents it's easily sorted and litter tray in your living room wouldn't smell great.

I'd see how confident he was when he arrives. You may not need to confine him to a single room at all.

Utility room for the first night or so and then you can get a sense of how comfortable he is and how well he uses his tray. Some cats may need a small space for a while, some will just wander around the house from the word dot.

Thank you so much all - that’s super helpful! Confirmed what I was thinking and will set things up in there :-)
