Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

It's not just you - that second bed looks both scary and like a pool of barf to me.

I miss the carpet in the second-but-last house I lived in. It was some sort of synthetic mixture, but a really nice cocoa colour with an almost marled effect, and hairball puke washed out of it SO easily and left almost no stain.

nettie434 · 20/11/2023 06:03

I love the gif Catsmere. Imagine how many outraged cats there would be if humans could rest on cats!

Catsmere · 20/11/2023 06:39

LOL @nettie434 I can just picture some of mine over the years reacting to that!

Though knowing Daisy (Miss Clingy) she'd probably just grab me and go back to sleep.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2023 07:22

That one Nettie posted at 21.23 looks like a dead elephant to me…
I need advice please folks to whether to vet or not to vet. Matt was on the litter tray for a couple of mins this morning, and only produced what appeared to be a small wee. He didn’t appear to be in pain, is eating normally (ie lots), running around normally (normal for him, he’s a fat lazy git).
He is nine and last new year had some urinary problems with a blockage in his urethra, I think.
Was he just sitting contemplating the meaning of life and enjoying a nice fresh tray as it was changed last night, or is there a problem? Vet or watch and wait?
I’m downstairs and have just heard one of them use the litter tray again but not sure if it’s Matt or Socks.
I probably can’t reply till later as I’m at work this morning.

RumNotRun · 20/11/2023 07:31

@Papergirl1968 personally I'd phone the vet for advice. One of my cats had recurring UTIs and I often called the vet to see whether they thought I should keep an eye out and bring him in.

Fingers crossed that Matt was just pondering on the intricacies of life.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2023 07:47

I popped back upstairs just before I left and whoever had used the litter tray last had done a poo.
I think you’re right, I’ll ring for advice. I don’t want it to get potentially serious like it was in the new year.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 20/11/2023 08:04

@Papergirl1968 I concur, either ring for advice or book an appt for today/early tomorrow which can be cancelled. He doesn’t sound like he’s exhibiting any signs of an infection but a vet might be able to pick it up really early.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/11/2023 09:54

Considering how bloody expensive Basil was when he had a urinary problem a few years ago - the sooner the better. So another vote for an early vet visit @Papergirl1968.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2023 12:19

Yep, Matt was £700 last time.
I’ve booked him in for this afternoons d booked a taxi. Roll on end of Jan when I can drive again.

Allergictoironing · 20/11/2023 14:08

We have a new breakthrough in the integration of Tobias with Girlcat - snuggled up together on my bed. First sighting of them this close (apart from play fighting or eating).

And yes I know the pillow case doesn't match the duvet cover. The squishy toy they are using to prop themselves up on is a rather large sloth - if they won't share my bed, I need something soft to cuddle at night! 😁

Oh how cute, Allergic. Matt and Socks never do that.
We are back from the vets. She think it's cystitis which could have easily - and still might - develop into another blockage. So he's had an injection and we have some tablets, plus he needs to be on supplements and special food for life (I had got him on urinary wet and dry food but had dropped it to just dry food food along with normal wet cat food).
Plus she recommended Feliway in case he was stressed (I don't think he is but she said cats sometimes don't show it), and I need to get a new cat carrier as the handle fell off ours (which admittedly I've had for more than 40 years). He has to go back on Wednesday to make sure all is ok, or earlier if I'm worried
She weighed him. He is 8.9 kg, which is about 19 and a half pounds, a reduction of about 1kg/2lbs since the new year. 🤦

integration to make the very soul melt allergic

paper- I’ve got Feliway in a packet here unopened - i post it?

That's one and 2/3rds Basils and I think he's quite big 😲

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 20/11/2023 17:08

@Papergirl1968 good Lord that’s a substantial cat! Going on 3x Velvets!

Supersimkin2 · 20/11/2023 17:36

Matt is magnificent and very muscly.

nettie434 · 20/11/2023 18:04

Don't Tobias and Girlcat look very content together? You have done so well Allergic. Poor Matt! Hope he feels better soon and clearly a good call to go to the vets.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 20/11/2023 18:13

Uh-oh! Velvet saw me cleaning out the litter tray and promptly rolled in it!

Ahh, that's so sweet. You might well need it though.

Supersimkin2 · 20/11/2023 18:34

Nah - it’s always next door at pets at home bargain bucket if I ever do. It’s really good stuff so I grab the damaged packets 😀 It would be an honour to serve The Magnificent. Pm address xxxx

TheBalletCats · 20/11/2023 19:29

@nettie434 I have accidentally (sleep disorder) used Balanchine as a pillow a handful of times 😶 happily he seems to view it as fair exchange 😺

@Papergirl1968 poor Matt (who weighs a wee bit more than the BalletCats combined btw!) glad it was caught early & hope he feels better soon 😻

@Allergictoironing that is so lovely to see! Also, that sloth is both hugenormous & a very natty dresser 😁

twobluechickens · 20/11/2023 20:02

We’ve had both loose stools and puking bile here today chez Chickens. Shortly after the bile incident, Munchkin started scrabbling under the wardrobe; turned out a toy was stuck under there and she wanted to play. So we had 10 minutes of comedy ball chasing followed by pointed miaows next to the empty wet food bowl.

I’ve fed her said wet food with warm water added to try to keep her hydrated; she’s eaten it happily and it seems to have stayed down. Now snoozing contentedly on my lap so let’s hope it was just a blip. Cats eh.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2023 20:02

From the amount of food Matt is still stuffing his face with, I'd say he feels just fine!
Unlike my bank account after shelling out on megabucks special food for his lordship, a new cat carrier, the vet bill and taxis there and back.
Thank you Super. PM-ing you now.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2023 20:06

You'll be like me then @twobluechickens in closely observing litter tray use, feeling like some sort of weirdo for watching your cat toilet. Not that it seems to bother them when they watch us go to the toilet!

twobluechickens · 20/11/2023 20:35

I keep peering around the door if I hear noises! Poor creature will get stage fright but like you say, has no compunction about staring at me while I use the facilities!

My two are happy to coordinate - they'll come in to use the litter while I'm on the loo. Which suits me, since I'm another who has to track who's done what and when. I'm always relieved when I know Daisy has done a poo.
